Meeting last night
Well, last night we had the 2nd ever meeting. It's definitely a labour of love! We really had no idea what to expect when we started this, we knew there were a few homebirthing mums around but really thought it would take a while (even years) before it became a really useful resource with people coming to the meetings.
Well I think it's going better than either of us could have expected - people have come from 40/50 miles away! And we're getting amazing support from the NHS, the Consultant Midwife (so I believe she's the top midwife in the entire trust) attended last night and is so incredibly enthusiastic about our group. She's really pulling out all the stops to help us, she's going to try and provide us a Supervisor of Midwives for a time slot at each meeting to answer questions and concerns. She's also looking for a venue for us in Aberdeen.
Also our trust is going to be giving every pregnant woman a leaflet detailing their birth choices, and the midwife should go over the leaflet with them. Our information will be on there. And the C.M. is going to talk about our group at the next Supervisors of Midwives meeting so that they're all aware that we exist and can inform their midwives that we're here.
I think what Charlie and I are most excited about though is that we've been invited to their birth conference in Aberdeen in May! It's a conference for professionals and they have speakers and debate panels. The theme of the conference is "Birth Choices". I think we'll be able to put information up there as well about our group.0 Commentaren 310 dagen

Hope your last meet went well? x
Hi all just wanted to say what a fantastic idea for a group!
I was lucky enough to have a homebirth with my 3rd child.
It was totally unplanned and a big shock but it couldnt have been more peaceful.
Good luck all for future homebirths

Hi Lyndsey! Sorry to hear that you didn't get your home birth.
But if you'd like to come to any meetings we'd still love to see you! Hopefully meetings in Aberdeen will start soon, not sure where you're based?
Good luck with your fantastic cause ladies!!!
I planned for a home birth for my 3rd child after my 2nd being delivered by my hubby in the car on route to AMH unfortunately I had to be induced as no 3 was 2wks late
Just wanted to say hi to everyone, got a few new members. Hope to see some of you at the next meeting, maybe I'll get lucky and have a baby by then!
also i did hypnobirthing as pain relief and it was fantastic. would recommend it to anyone. couldnt afford the classes but the £10 cd did the trick
i wished i seen this before gave birth i really wanted to have a home birth, got a pool and everything but baby was too big. there is not alot of information about it here and i find all midwives have different views on it.
luv to know i was not the only one to think home births are a good idea
Sorry about the late reply.
I was emailed a link to the story by a lady on a forum I used to use. I have no idea how she heard about it
I would love to come along to a meeting but it is too far for me to travel as I have no transport. If there is ever a meeting in Aberdeen then I will be there !
Hi Amber,
I found the water really helpful, I felt so much calmer and more relaxed once I got in to the pool.
I saw an article on the group in the P&J. I can't make it at the moment as I work on Tuesday evenings (until maternity leave!).
Hi Kirsty, thanks for the comment! I'm planning a water birth this time (me being Amber, since I'm posting under the group ID), looking forward to it! Did you enjoy being in the water?
If you can make it out to Peterhead we'd love to see you at the next meeting! Can I ask how you found out about the group?
I am hoping to have a home birth with my third baby, due in May. My first two were born at AMH, second one in the birthing pool.
Ive had 4 births but no home births, but I am all for parents being supported to get the births that they chose!
iv had 2 children in hospital, and after my experience with my second child if i had another child id love a home birth, hospitals can be very un personal
Hi everyone
Thanks for the comments so far! Hope you enjoyed the article in the P&J. Watch this space for more updates on the group as time goes on.
Amber
I had a homebirth with my 2nd child in Jan 08 (in Aberdeen). It is fantastic to see that a group has been set up for homebirthing mothers in Grampian.
Good luck with the group.
love your site. good luck girls. as a homebirth mum I know how important it is to have the choice
