I work a lot. It occupies and satisfies me.

I'm a singing teacher - I teach privately from home and at Starmakers Performing Arts academy. I also run a choir out in Cambridge: The Waikato Modern Choir. They are awesome.

I'm the advertising and sponsorship coordinator of Hamilton's community radio 106.7FM or 1206AM or streaming live from www.communityradio.co.nz. We are a community based access station by, for and about the community. From health and disability shows to community information to arts and drama to music - heavy metal to jazz.

I sing, play piano and guitar.

I am working on my album with my guitarist Duncan Cole. If you play an instrument and want to add your flavour, get in touch!

I need your feedback!!

Hey guys!

As many of you are aware, I've been writing music and singing for ten years now, and have now been presented with a fantastic opportunity to record my own album!

As a way of going about this process, I need to do a some market research of sorts, and if you could take a few moments to help me, I would really appreciate it.

First, when you think of me as an individual, how would you describe me? Physically, personality-wise, ethnically, spiritually or whatever else...

Secondly, if you go to my profile page on Facebook, (or visit www.reverbnation.com/emmag) and listen to one or two (or all) of my demo songs, can you please describe what they sound like / how they make you feel / what they remind you of etc? As many descriptive words as possible. :-D

If you could have a ponder on these points and either message me, make a comment or become a fan on Reverbnation (or all of the above!!) that would be fantastic!!

This will help me to get an idea of what my strengths are according to you, my friends and networks, and what I will need to work on before going into production.

Soundwave 09 - Lacuna Coil, Devildriver, NIN, Alice in Chains, Bloodhound Gang...

Well gosh darnnit, if there's one good thing I can say about NZ concerts, it's that the entries are usually very well organized. I got to the Eastern Creek Raceway at 12pm - when the concert was due to start - and waited in line for a good TWO HOURS before I managed to get into the venue. Part of this was due to the fact that there were so many friggin people there (I would estimate at LEAST 35,000), but mostly I think it was due to the fact that there were only two main entry ways. However, this gave me ample time to drink the 200ml bottle of absolut vodka I picked up from duty free for $6 (haha), and get chatting to some nice locals. And by locals I mean two girls who are actually from the UK - but still. Fran and Alanah. They were awesome.
Anywho, finally managed to get into the gig - after NO bag checking may I add - just in time to see Underoath. They were MAD!! It was awesome seeing them live - despite the God bothering preaching, but hey. Whatever floats your boat.
And who should I bump into after Underoath but good old Sam - who had flown into Sydney the day before also to go to Soundwave - and out of all the thousands of people there, we managed to find each other (without being able to use our cellphones lol)!!
So after Underoath, we perused the scene a bit - listened to Anberlin, Finch, HelloGoodbye, Poison the Well and Funeral for a friend - whilst having a couple of beers. :-)
Bloodhound Gang played at 5.20 and they played all the favourites - including the ballad of Chasey Lane. Good shit.
Then, finally, 6.15 rolled around, and we went to see Lacuna Coil. MY GOD they are amazing. The music just swallows you whole and you can't think of anything else. Cristina Scabbia's voice is just phenomenal. They opened with "Within Me" and ended with "Our Truth" (fuckin a), with Enjoy the Silence, Fragile and Devoted all in the mix as well. It was just amazing. I have no idea how many photos I took!! Haha.
After Lacuna Coil, Devildriver mounted the stage, and my God, they were brutal. Never have I seen such a manic pit circle - it was great fun. Sam had a ball getting amongst it too :-P Halfway through Devildriver, we left to go see Alice in Chains (they were AWESOME) and Say Anything (wasn't really familiar with them - but Sam loves them so who was I to stop him? :-P)
From there, we went back to Stage Four (where Devildriver had just finished up) to see In Flames - shit they were massive!!
And the night finished off with Nine Inch Nails and Lamb of God.
Eight hours of metal and $90 later (I had to buy a shirt - and I needed food and beer :-P), I'm still pinching myself that I was actually there. I'm so stoked to have been given the opportunity.
Roll on next year!! :-D

Tomorrow I'm gonna be resting I think (still getting over Maiden on Friday too don't forget), and possibly going out for a drink with one of my grandmothers neighbours (she lives next door to a bunch of Irishmen - they're a dangerous breed, I know, but they know the sights, and they're oh so lovely. :-D Then Tuesday, it'll be drinkies on with Serena!! w00t!!!
