Life Skills is the terms used to describe the group of skills that you need in order to be able to live independently. It covers a wide range of practical knowledges, from personal hygiene, shopping for food, cleaning your home and handling money, as well as more social skills that you pick up from having a wide peer group.

After leaving school, a great number of disabled and learning disabled young people find that they get little or no support outside of their family and that the move towards community-based provision of care, is presenting them with enormous challenges. This can make it difficult for you to develop the skills that come naturally with social interaction, or that require greater support.
