- Five Generations Of Legendary Camaro Muscle.
The Chevrolet CAMARO is a pony car manufactured by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. It went on sale on September 29, 1966 for the 1967 model year and was designed as a competing model to the Ford Mustang. The car shared the platform and major components with the Pontiac Firebird, also introduced for 1967. Four distinct generations of the car were produced before production ended in 2002. A new fifth-generation Camaro will roll off assembly lines in spring of 2009.

2010 Camaro Info.
When will the new 5th Generation Camaro be on sale?
General Motors has said that production of the 2010 Camaro starts around October 2008, and that Camaros will start appearing in dealers in first quarter of 2009. The Camaro Convertible will follow several months later.
Where will the Camaro be built?
Camaro will be assembled on Line #1 at the General Motors assembly facility in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. For people who are concerned about it not being built in the USA, please note that Oshawa Assembly is one of GM's highest quality plants, and wins industry quality awards every year, which in turn will make for a better Camaro. The employees at Oshawa Assembly (some of which post on this site) are excited to build the new Camaro, and are committed to building the best Camaro yet.
How much is the new Camaro going to cost?
Bob Lutz has stated that he wants to keep Camaro pricing as close to comparable Mustangs as possible.
Will there be a Firebird?
No. There are currently no plans for a car in this class for Pontiac. But if there were, GTO would take over as Pontiac's halo car. That would be the better bet for Pontiac, since it would be the larger, more upscale RWD V8 coupe. Thus, not competing with the Camaro, nor just a re-skin of the Camaro.
What engines will the new Camaro have?
There have been several engines thrown out there for use in the Camaro. There is nothing certain so far for the production Camaro, but General Motors won't let us down!
The Concept Camaro has the 6.0L LS2 V8 producing 400hp, but since the LS2 goes out of production in 2008, this engine will not be offered in the production Camaro.
Rumored engines:
- 3.6L Direct Injection DOHC V6
- 6.2L LS3 V8 (as found in the 2008 Corvette)
- Supercharged 6.2L V8 - There are three new supercharged 6.2L V8s from General Motors. The 2009 Corvette receives the 620hp LS9, and the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V receives the 550hp LSA. There is supposed to be an LS8 as well at around 525hp, and it is rumored that this may be the top-level Camaro engine.
What transmissions will be offered in the new Camaro?
Camaro will be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
What will be the Camaro trim levels?
Base Camaro featuring the V6, with LS and LT trim packages (not model names). The SS will likely be the base V8, and the Z28 will likely return as the top level Camaro, perhaps in the second year.
Is the production Camaro going to look like the Concept cars?
Take a look around this site, there are many pictures floating around of the prototype and pre-production Camaros, as well as spy photos of Camaros caught in testing. They are virtually unchanged from the concept, and all the details and character lines that make the concept so amazing are all still intact.
There will be a few minor adjustments... smaller wheels, real marker lights, a real fuel fill door... but dimensionally it won't change much from the concept.
How much will the car weigh?
Another question with no certain answer yet. Due to government regulations regarding safety and crash standards, and gas mileage standards, an educated guess would be around 3700-3800lbs.
What other cars will share the same platform with Camaro?
Currently assembly line #1 of the Oshawa Assembly facility is being rebuilt to accomodate the assembly of Zeta-chassis vehicles. Zeta is the North American version of General Motors' new global RWD platform.
All that is currently confirmed for the Zeta platform so far is the Chevrolet Camaro and the Pontiac G8. However it is rumored that we may see the Chevrolet Impala, Pontiac GTO, A Chevy GTO (a larger V8 coupe), Cadillac DTS, and Buick Lucerne all on the Zeta platform.0 Kommentare 355 Tage

In addition, the Camaro continues to find its way into modern day fiction. The vehicle mode of the character Bumblebee in the 2007 film, Transformers, is first a 1976 model Camaro[16] and later a fifth-generation concept variant. A modified fifth-generation Camaro will reprise the role of Bumblebee in the upcoming sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Top Gear's American fly-drive special featured a 1989 Camaro RS, bought by presenter Jeremy Clarkson for US$800 in Miami. During the filming, Clarkson became rather attached to the car, at one point stating that "I'd rather be in this now than an Enzo."[17]
Various models of the Camaro have been featured in game series such as the Forza Motorsport series, Gran Turismo series, Midnight Club series, Need for Speed series, L.A Rush, and Sega GT 2002.

RACING HISTORY :
The Camaro was one of the prominent vehicles in the SCCA-sanctioned Trans-Am Series. Chevrolet contracted Roger Penske to operate their "unofficial" factory-backed Trans Am team, winning the title in 1968 and 1969 with Mark Donohue. Jim Hall's Chararral team replaced Penske for the 1970 season. Warren Agor of Rochester, NY, was the series' leading Camaro privateer, his orange #13's often jousting with the factory cars. Maurice Carter of car dealer Maurice Carter Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada took a new Camaro off his lot and entered the 1970 Trans-Am Series. Carter earned the highest placed Canadian independent driver score of all the Trans-Am racers. Camaro were in use in Trans-Am until the late 1990s and won further titles in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1998.

A Camaro driven by Bob Jane also won 2 championships in the Australian Touring Car Championship, now known as V8 Supercars), in 1971 and 1972.[14]
The Camaro was the official car of and used in the International Race of Champions starting in 1975 and lasting for 12 years until 1989. It was the first American car of the series succeeding the Porsche Carrera RSR.
Today, Camaros are raced in many forms of auto racing throughout the world. They are a favorite in drag racing and can be currently found in several series from the National Hot Rod Association, International Hot Rod Association, and United States Hot Rod Association. Road racing Camaros can currently be found in the Sports Car Club of America's American Sedan series. They have also been the exclusive vehicle used in the Swedish Camaro Cup series since 1975.0 Kommentare 379 Tage
