History
NAFOURA Magazine was launched in March 2009. The initial concepts behind creating this magazine were to connect belly dancers worldwide and to raise awareness of belly dancing. The magazine is not only targeted at belly dancers but also to readers outside of the belly dancing community. Each issue addresses various topics related to a different theme related to belly dance, such as dance styles or male belly dancers.
"NAFOURA is a key networking resource, bridging knowledge and talent and enabling the awareness and development of the belly dancing art."
Key Articles
In August 2009, NAFOURA Magazine published articles related to the theme that belly dance is made for all body shapes and for anyone who is open and willing to learn. Princess Farhana contributed an article, "Ahlan wa Sahlan Story", based on the world famous Ahlan wa Sahlan Festival, a belly dancing event held annually in Cairo, organised by Raqia Hassan. This issue also included an article titled "Suhaila Salimpour", based on a one to one interview with belly dance star Suhaila Salimpour. The article discusses the Suhaila Salimpour School of Belly Dance and motherhood.
In June 2009, NAFOURA Magazine published articles related to the controversial theme 'Male Belly Dancers'. The magazine featured an interview with Ozgen, "An Interview with Ozgen - Turkish Male Belly Dancer", a well known dance artist based in London. Other featured male artists include: Tito Seif, Tariq Sultan, Osama Emam, Omar Al Khabir, and Bobby (Ibrahim) Farrah.
Other featured articles, published in past issues of NAFOURA Magazine, have included "A Brief Tour of Tribal", written by Kimberly Mackoy.
