Lynch is from Mohill in County Leitrim.[6] She has claimed repeatedly to have been "nurtured by drag queens".[3][6] Her extraordinary genealogical links have seen claims that she is related to everyone from Patrick Kavanagh to Che Guevara. Lynch's father is from County Kerry and she has a strong GAA background, with former Kerry footballer and manager Páidí Ó Sé being one of her cousins.[10] Despite persistent rumours fuelled by the RTÉ Guide[6] that she is the granddaughter of the acclaimed Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh, Lynch is in fact his grandniece.[3] RTÉ have since ensured that they have corrected this mistake in her online Celebrity Bainisteoir and Wonderwomen biographies.[2][4] Revelations concerning her links to the Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara were also discussed on RTÉ Radio 1 by another relative, the songwriter, Shay Healy.[12] This comes about through her connections to the Galwegian Patrick Lynch and his relatives who also include the naval officer Patricio Lynch, and the writers Benito Lynch and Adolfo Bioy Casares.[12]
Lynch currently resides in a 1970s two-bedroom Dublin apartment overlooking Portobello.[13] Long-term friends, who include the singer Brian Kennedy and the television presenter Brendan Courtney, often visit to watch her television shows with her.[13] She often watches art-house films, describing Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy as being amongst her favourite films.[13] Her DVD collection includes a box set of Only Fools and Horses, Blood Diamond and Spinal Tap – she used to own Little Miss Sunshine as well but then gave it to a friend.[13] Lynch's preferred radio station is RTÉ lyric fm, which she listens to for its music.[13] Lynch describes herself as "a bit minimalistic as regards possessions", donating most of her music collection (which included Adam Ant and Alison Moyet) to Oxfam when she moved house.[13] She can often be seen walking around Dublin, particularly to RTÉ and to venues such as Whelan's and The Village.[13]

Fresh from the success of two hit RTE series in 2008, 'Wonder Women' and 'Working Girls', Katherine Lynch brings her crazy crew of highly unusual, but nigglingly identifiable, modern Irish Women to the Vicar Street stage next year, with extra dates added.
Populated by a host of Katherine’s larger than life creations, the live show, sometimes naughty and often spontaneous, intertwines the fantastical lives of everyone’s favourite characters from both hit series.
Live and very loud on the night will ADVERTISEMENTbe Leitrim’s very own gormless gaffer Liz Hurley, with anecdotes of everything from sheep dipping to sheep tipping, singing with Mohill’s premier AC/DC tribute band 50/50 and coaching her beloved football team, The Mohill Lassies.
Also joining the line-up will be travelling ‘Country 'n Irish’ Lino Legend Singing Bernie Walsh, with songs about love, life and carpet remnants and serial divorcee Sheila Chic.
Leitrim born Katherine, whose mother Maureen (nee Quinn) is native of Cooleeny, Longford, kicked off her comedy career in 1998 when she was crowned Alternative Miss Ireland by a panel of celebrity judges headed up by music supremo and all round know it all Louis Walsh.
After getting a taste for the limelight, Katherine, a grand niece of Patrick Kavanagh, and her co-creator, Warren Meyler, developed numerous characters and honed their skills in various residencies for over a decade. Katherine finally made the leap to TV in January 2008 when she has spotted in a small cameo role in RTE's late night comedy ‘The Unbelievable Truth’.
Lynch’s left of field attitude and playful disregard for political correctness has so far done her proud. Katherine Lynch brings her menagerie of slightly weird yet strangely lovable characters to Vicar Street for what promises to be one heck of a night.
