A 15-YEAR-OLD boy was killed on a Derby street last night in what was feared to be a gang-related shooting.
The teenager, named this morning as Kadeem Blackwood, was walking with a group of friends in Caxton Street recreation ground, Sunny Hill, at 9.20pm when he was shot in the chest.
He was taken to the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary but died there of his injuries.
Armed officers and dog units, supported by a police helicopter, were sent to the scene. Today a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was being held in custody and was expected to be questioned later today.
It is understood that Kadeem had been a pupil at Chellaston School between 2005 and December last year. Headteacher Ray Ruszczynski said Kadeem had been a popular boy. "It's very sad when tragedies like this take place especially in someone so young like Kadeem."

Derby Evening Telegraph
The Telegraph understands that officers investigating the attack carried out a raid on a house in Osmaston Park Road, Pear Tree, this morning. An elderly occupant of the property was taken ill during the operation and had to be taken to hospital. No arrests were made.
A woman who said she was related to the house occupier claimed police were looking for the gunman but officers would not confirm whether the incident in Pear Tree was related to the shooting.
In a separate raid in Malborough Road, Derby, police broke through the door of a semi-detached house at about 7am this morning.
A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said that she saw between seven and nine police cars outside the house.
She said: "I opened the curtains and I could see police everywhere.
"I heard some banging but my other neighbour has kids so I thought it might be them at first.
"When I saw the police were hitting the door I thought something dreadful could have happened."
A statement said that police had executed warrants at two addresses in the city today but the locations were not given.
At Sunny Hill, police cordoned off part of Coleridge Street, between its junction with Caxton Street and Grenfell Avenue. Part of the recreation ground was also cordoned off.
There are fears among the community that the shooting could be linked to a dispute between two Derby gangs – the Browning Circle Terrorists and the A1 crew. There have been a number of gun-related incidents in recent months and there are concerns that this is a tragic escalation of the violence between the two groups.
Assistant Chief Constable Peter Goodman today said: "Derbyshire Constabulary would like to offer their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Kadeem whose loss most be a terrible blow to all of them.
"Fatal shootings are not commonplace in places like Derby. We have had a number of incidents of firearms being discharged in the city in the last 12 months but we have gained a number of significant convictions and several others are currently awaiting trial.
"This is the ninth firearm discharge in the last 12 months, the last incident being in June when a window was damaged.
"An incident room has been set up to deal with this investigation and all available resources are being committed to solve this murder.
"As we have said, this is a very unusual incident in Derby and we are treating it as a major incident but it is only with the help of local people that we will be able to tackle incidents like this and bring offenders to justice.
"We would like to appeal to members of the public who were present or nearby at the time of the incident or who have any information that they feel is of value to bring the offender to justice for this event.
"A post mortem examination will take place later today."
It is understood that Kadeem had been a pupil at Chellaston School between 2005 and December last year. Headteacher Ray Ruszczynski said Kadeem had been a popular boy. "It's very sad when tragedies like this take place especially in someone so young like Kadeem."
Residents in the Caxton Street area said they had been stunned by the shooting.
Chris McIlroy, a bricklayer of Baxter Square, said: "I've got two sons aged two and one and I take them to the park to play on the swings, so it's definitely worrying when stuff like this happens close by.
