Early collapse kills Cove
A disastrous first half put paid to Cove Rangers' Active Nation Scottish Cup exploit as they were undone by five goals before the interval as Stenhousemuir flew out of the traps to setup a fourth round tie at Dunfermline Athletic.
Cove even had the chance to grab themselves a lifeline from the penalty spot when they were three goals down but it wasn't to be the Toonsers' day as Kevin Webster's spot kick was saved.
Stenhousemuir got off to a great start and were one up within the first 40 seconds. Scott Dalziel's cross from the right was parried half clear by Cove goalkeeper Stuart McKenzie only as far as Kevin Motion, who powered a strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Seconds later, Craig Molloy picked the ball up 30 yards out and looked up before picking his spot beyond the despairing dive of McKenzie to continued Stenhousemuir's dream start to the tie.
Dalziel was presented with a golden chance to make it three just a few minutes later but he sclaffed his shot from an unmarked position just 10 yards out.
On 13 minutes, Stenhousemuir made it three when a mistake by Eric Watson allowed Kevin Bradley to steal the ball from within his grasp before the forward unleashed a beautifully chipped shot from an acute angle.
Cove were handed the opportunity to force their way into the match when Clark Bain was bundled to the ground by Motion inside the box on 16 minutes. The normally-reliable Kevin Webster stepped up but he found Chris McCluskey in the right position to save his spot kick.
On the half hour mark, Stenny effectively sealed the tie when Iain Thomson collected the ball 30 yards from goal and spotted McKenzie off his line before despatching an exquisite lob into the net.
Cove almost grabbed themselves a goal back on 33 minutes when Martin Johnston carved open a chance for himself as he capitalised on Macleod's sloppy defending before prodding a shot goalwards but McCluskey was out fast to block his effort.
The hosts made it five on 35 minutes when Kevin Bradley beat the offside trap before cutting the ball back to Pat Scullion, who forced McKenzie into making a strong save. From the resulting corner, the ball was laid into the path of Kevin Motion and after his initial effort was blocked, he showed incredible initiative to power a rocket into the postage stamp on the first time volley.
Half time: Stenhousemuir 5 Cove Rangers 0
Only McKenzie's heroics saved Cove from falling further behind seven minutes after the restart. A ball in from the left was headed clear to Molloy, who looked to be celebrating his second of the afternoon until the visiting goalkeeper tipped the ball onto the crossbar.
Cove threatened to nick a consolation on 74 minutes when Webster's free kick was glanced goalwards by Jordan Heads but Stenny stopper McCluskey was alert to deny the defender his first senior goal.
A minute later, Cove were fortunate to escape as substitute Andy Stirling's cross missed everyone and the bamboozled figure of McKenzie was relieved to see it come back off the far post.

Well of course we fancy our chances of at least a draw. If Academy play to their capabilities & Brechin have an off day, we will win. Our boys are young & quite fast play football with their feet & not in the air. Willl ye be traveling up here for the game??
What was your score today? We beat Clach 5-2!
I'm suprised too!
Scottish Cup Draw
Stenhousemuir V Cove Rangers
Fair doos, draw tomorrow!
Skins not that bad, thought it needed a change since the old one was just the display picture
That skin is horrid, Get the old one back up. Good result today and hopefully a decent away tie for the next round.
No many, its a long way to travel from Wick every fortnight . Well done today on a good result
Good win for you. Good luck for the rest of the competition
What was your score today?
We won 4-1
It will be hard if yous do win it though.
That would be quite impressive for us
.
Where yuu think yous will finish?
Yeah I suppose but I can't see us winning the leauge this season. Probably be yous or Deveronvale.
Suppose
But it's kinda a good thing baring in mind huntlys players aren't the most fittest
