- the national animal rights association is an organisation, mainly based in Dublin, devoted to fighting for animal rights. this is a page for N.A.R.A in the Kilkenny region.
N.A.R.A has many ongoing campaigns such as fur farming, greyhound/horse racing, foie gras, veganism, vivisection, circuses and soon to be zoo campaigns.
Nara's anti-fur campaign is run by Caft.

fur farm awareness day
Hi, Myself and Kim are going to be in Athy from around 12noon - 2.30pm on Thursday (20th November), to do an information table on fur farming. We hope to get into a rota with activists from Kilkenny (thanks Suzy and Lorraine!), so that there'll be a fur farming stall in either Athy or Portlaoise (the two towns nearest Ireland's largest fur farm) every month. We'll be bringing extra campaign materials with us, for Suzy and Lorraine to have, so we won't be able to fit a third person in the car this time. However, seen as this will hopefully become a regular event (with us heading down from Dublin every 2nd month), please let us know if you'd be interested in coming along next time and we'll keep you posted. No specific day of the month has been designated yet, but it will always be a weekday, and you'd need to be in Dublin city centre by 10am. Should vivisection be banned?
Below is a link to the ''headtohead'' article that was printed in the Irish Times today on vivisection. I wrote the piece in support of a ban, and a professor from TCD wrote against a ban.
I would urge everyone to write in to the Irish Times re this article! Show them you can't be fooled by heartless, nonsense-ramblings of a TCD Professor, and that you fully support our campaign to end vivisection!

ACTIVISTS VISIT CO. LAOIS TO PROTEST IRELAND'S LARGEST FUR FARM

Yesterday, Saturday 27th September, over a dozen members of Ireland's Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT) organised another successful "Fur Farm Awareness Day" in Co. Laois.
"We started off the day by setting up an information table and visual display in Portlaoise, which gathered a lot of support from passers-by. We also had teams of people leafleting all around the town - and we received huge support from local shops and restaurants, who took bundles of our leaflets for their customers to take." says CAFT spokesperson, Laura Broxson
"We then headed to Stradbally, to protest Ireland's largest fur farm, Vasa Ltd (which was recently raided by the Animal Liberation Front). They murder over 45,000 mink on this death camp every year - so we weren't about to go easy on them. We spent over an hour and a half shouting on megaphones, leaving them in no doubt as to why we were there. Employees of the farm kept coming down to briefly look at us, and even people driving by stopped to watch. It was a very successful day." she said.
"Fur farming is Ireland's secret shame - if more people knew about them, the quicker they would be closed down. But as long as people are being kept unaware, the Department of Agriculture are happy to keep these death camps in business, by licensing them. We cannot stress enough how important that people voice their objections to this disgusting industry, whether it's joining our campaigns, or writing to the Minister of Agriculture, something needs to be done - now.
We campaign on a weekly basis to close Ireland's fur farms, and we have now committed to making these awareness days in Laois more frequent, so if anyone would like to get involved, please get in touch: www.naracampaigns.org " she added.
FACTS:
Ireland currently has 6 mink farms and at least 1 fox farm, where a total of 150,000 animals are murdered every year.
Mink are kept in cages with a floor space equivalent of just 2 shoe boxes. They are usually gassed to death by carbon monoxide - 40 mink at a time are put into the killing box. Gassing often doesn't work, many are skinned alive.
Foxes are kept in cages just 1 metre square (2 fox per cage). They are killed by electrocution - utilising a 12 volt car battery with a transformer of 200 volts. Electrodes are clamped to their mouth while rods are inserted into their rectum and an extremely painful death ensues.1 commento 421 giorni

there's now a vegetarian kilkenny meeting. Happens once a month where vegans and vegetarians meet up and bring dishes for everyone and talk. Its on this saturday again

We have already met with officials from the Irish Department of Agriculture and personally handed them over 2,600 written petitions. They are ready to listen to the public on this matter so please please help us ban this cruel trade!

Sosmix, made by Direct Foods was one of the first veggie sausage foods. Since at least the early 1980s it’s enabled people to barbecue, fry, bake or grill great tasting burgers and sausages.
