- Información
- Ballybunion Sea and Cliff Rescue was set up in 1986 to provide a community based rescue service in Ballybunion, North Kerry. The service started off with a Zodiac and a container on the beach and progressed into what we have today. Our rescue centre was built in 2001 and houses our Avon Ea-16 D-Class, Atlantic 21 RIB, launching vehicle and Landrover 130 Defender 4x4. Today the service is manned by 25 volunteers who are on call 24hours a day 365 day of the year by way of a pager system. When you call were there within 7 minutes. I'll update more of this in time so keep an eye on it!!
- Callouts
- We receive on average 25-30 callouts or taskings every year. These calls range from people stuck on rocks, vessels on fire, animals trapped, persons drowning, false alarms and body recovery. We also conduct land searchs on request from the Gardaí in search of missing persons.
- Members
- Our membership is totally volunteer work. No one gets paid or receives a retainer. We give up our free time to train, raise mush needed money for the running costs and to answer the call of our pager at a moments notice. Our professions are wide and varied from builders, computer techs, Firemen, council works to students, farmers and Gardaí.
- Training
- Boat training takes place every Sunday all year round and includes Tuesday evenings during summer months. In addition to this we train from time to tme with the Shannon based rescue helicopter, Rescue 115. We also attend boating courses held by IWS in Tramore.
First Aid traing is provided by the Iriah Coast Guard to occupational level, but we are lucky enough to have completed an Emergency Medical First Responder programme for 5 of our members with the National Ambulance College and two progressed to Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Suport level. As of Feb 2009 6 of our members began an EMT training programme to be completed by August 09. - First Aid
- Our members are all trained to PHECC standards. Everyone is trained to CFR. We have 8 EFRs and will have 6 EMTs shortly!
- Operational Area
- We cover from Kerry head to loop head back up the Shannon esturary to Foynes, Co. Limerick. A very large body of water!
- Scared Of
- I have walked into the valley of the shadow of death and i fear no EVIL
