both have their merits and are used for very different purposes

when mixing on fm radio or for some smaller events

or corporate events

its advisable to use fm style unless stated

unless you feel club style will boost your mix


Fm Style

fm style is when you fade into another song with out changing the pitch at all

often acompanied by a jingle or an advert like on the radio hence "fm style"

fm style is commonly used by beginer club djs , who have not yet made their way up to club mixing fully , fm mixing can make a lot of money and should never be frowned upon


Club Style

this is when you beatmatch all of your songs

say song 1 is 198 bpm
but song 2 is 230 bpm

you adjust the pitch , of song 2 that it matches song 1

to do this use the pitch slider or (jog wheel if you have one , on your cd)

then you mix

remember most songs are 4/4 beats , listen to both songs using preivew , count these 4 beats

you will notice that one beat usualy the first is more prominant , this is called the keybeat
this always needs to be mixed into the next keybeat

once you have mastered this you may wish to pratise the next level of clubmixing used by pros matching gain , and using the volume faders to mix not the crossfader

Abuse of club mixing

it is not cool , and frankly crap

when folks like dj rankin make a mix by simply raising the pitch to the top and adding one voice

if you do this you wont get a job or a gig ever and ul end up being sued and pennyless like mr rankin and mr cammy

dont acept music like this , as it kills remixing.

another friendly tip for all

at first gigs if you cant perfectly beatmatch!

use fm style for a crowd there is nothing more painful than out of sync beats

it actualy hurts lol

pratise this in private or to a select audience

record and listen back to what you have done

to look what needs to be improved.

CLUB MIX

i use gains to match the volumes of tracks.

Then beat match the tracks in my head phones.

BUT THEN

i use a combination of Gain and all 3 band knobs to bring my track in

OR

i may use an effect to then drop a high energy tune in on its First Primary part of the track ( with out intro )

EXPERIMENT

is the best advice i can give.

I must have 100 different ways of droping, mixing, looping, fading and presenting tracks to a crowd.

Get in ur rooms and PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE.

watch youtube videos. search 'pioneer' for example

then wqtch the top DJs show you the tricks of the trade on the pioneer goods. its the same principles on all equipment if they have the features.
