- Liverpool has been chosen to stage the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2008.
The announcement was made in last year’s host city Munich.
The home of The Beatles will be European Capital Of Culture in 2008, so we thought it was only right that MTV held its biggest party of the year in the city.
Liverpool will become the third place in the UK to hold the ceremony after London and Edinburgh.

We’ve been “Rickrolled!”
Over twenty years after his hit single went to No. 1 in 16 countries, 80s pop star Rick Astley has been nominated in the category Best Act Ever as his fans take his hit single ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ literally and flock to write-in his name as a nominee.
Rick Astley – in his first ever nomination in the history of the MTV Europe Music Awards – will compete against Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Green Day, Tokio Hotel and U2 for Best Act Ever.
The finalists in the Video Star category were also revealed today as selected by MTV - with Madonna receiving her only EMA nomination this year for ‘4 Minutes’. She is battling for the Award against 30 Seconds to Mars, Santogold, Snoop Dogg and Weezer.
Here are all the nominees for Best Act Ever and Video Star:
Best Act Ever: Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Green Day, Rick Astley, Tokio Hotel, U2
Video Star: 30 Seconds to Mars – ‘A Beautiful Lie;’ Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake – ‘4 Minutes;’ Santogold – ‘L.E.S. Artistes;’ Snoop Dogg ‘Sensual Seduction;’ Weezer – ‘Pork and Beans.’

Want to go to the 2008 MTV EMAs?
Of course you do! They are taking place on 6 November 2008 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. And we want you there. Really, we do.
So here's the deal: we have a limited number of tickets available for purchase. So we're going to run a ballot to determine who can get their mitts on them.
Tickets will be £60.00 each, plus a £3.00 booking fee and an additional charge of £4.95 for shipping and handling.
Here are some rules (don't worry, we're making them real easy to follow. After all, rules and MTV don't really go):
You can only apply once per household for the opportunity to buy up to 4 tickets. Please only select the number of tickets you wish to purchase if you are successful or you run the risk of losing them all!
The ballot will run from 16:00 BST 8 September 2008 until 18:00 BST on 4 October, 2008.

2008 EMA Categories Unveiled!
MTV Networks International unveiled the 11 categories for this year’s 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards. In the tradition of 15 years of the MTV Europe Music Awards, the categories celebrate the great and the good of the international music scene, but this year the categories also honour new and upcoming artists.
This year, MTV is inviting its audience to vote in 10 of the 11 categories, including three brand new awards – New Act, Best Act Ever and Europe’s Favourite. These new awards underline MTV’s continuing commitment to new and regional artists as well as ongoing support for established artists. The remaining award – Video Star - will be decided by MTV.
The categories are:
Album Of The Year
Headliner (Most impressive live band of the year at a festival or on tour)
Most Addictive Track (Favourite track of the year)
Best Act Ever (The act – new, established or legendary - that fans love the most)
New Act (Best debut by a new artist in 200
Act of 2008 (Best act of 200
Ultimate Urban (Favourite R&B or Hip Hop act)
Rock Out (Favourite Rock or Alternative Act)
Regional Award (Local artist as voted by MTV viewers in each territory)
Europe’s Favourite (The finalists from Best Regional Award go head to head)
Video Star (Decided by MTV)
