RE:TECH Present BILLY NASTY@The BIG LOFT Saturday 5th December
BILLY NASTY returns to RE:TECH on Saturday 5th December. After jamming the the Loft on his last visit last January this gig will be held in the more comfortable surroundings of the BIG LOFT
Billy Nasty has long been surfing dance music's vanguard. He has a passion for quality dance music but also realises the importance of a party, of a packed room where everyone's letting rip. His career consists of three vibrant stages. The third is just beginning and Billy is primed, mischievous as ever, ready to go.
STAGE 3: Now based in Brighton, but with dates immediately forthcoming all over the world, Billy's keen to make his presence felt at home in the UK. We live in exciting times for electronic music and Nasty's regular performances at Fabric reminded him lately of his ever-changing role. 'Fabric know I can come up with a valid contemporary angle,' he explains, 'I play techno, minimal and electro but I'm at my happiest fluctuating between styles, a million miles away from that bang-bang unforgiving techno'.
Indeed, Billy's sophisticated recent single with Gregor Tresher, 'The Mad Real World', was Electro Single of the Month in Mixmag, referred to as the future of electro. He's also been hooking up with fresh Serbian talent Marko Nastic and releases his debut under his own name, 'Imperfections', ..punk, label of electro kingpin Anthony Rother who Billy tours with when he plays live. From Alkan to Vath, electro is now club land's cutting edge and it's a sound Billy knows backwards. 'Its time,' he points out, 'for the more open-minded DJs of my generation to evolve'.
STAGE 1: Nasty crash-landed in the post-acid house scene, starting the Exploding Plastic Inevitable at The Brain with fellow enthusiast Steve Bicknell. The club was a success and its mix of flavours can still be sampled on Billy's seminal 'Journeys By DJ Vol.1', the Guinness Book Of Records-listed first commercially released mix album. Before long Billy was at the forefront of the progressive scene, one of the hottest DJs in London who also produced and remixed as Shi-Take and Vinyl Blair.
STAGE 2: Wanting to showcase the new sounds of techno Billy started the Theremin agency in 1995, introducing a roster of European talent (Adam Beyer, Marco Carola, Umek, etc) to a wider audience. He established himself as a leading proponent of harder-edged techno, releasing mix CD 'Race Data' and setting up the Tortured label which became a go-to imprint for the likes of Dave Clarke and Laurent Garnier. Its success was matched by Open To Torture nights in London and the US. The new millennium saw Billy's love of electro represented by his new label Electrix which released critically acclaimed albums by the likes of Transparent Sound, The Advent and Sons of Slough. Billy's DJing, meanwhile, had gone convincingly global.
STAGE 3 AGAIN: Nasty is a musical wanderer by nature and became frustrated by the time spent administrating his labels and DJ agency. Electrix was releasing tracks by the likes of Carl Finlow, Mr Velcro Fastener and Phil Kieran that anticipated the way the dance scene was heading, but Billy wanted to get back into the frontline, producing and DJing. Thus he withdrew from Theremin and has now begun to wind down all the labels. He's out there with one foot in the future whilst retaining the lessons of his lively history, playing the most futuristic sounds - but on vinyl.
'I love vinyl's history as the centre of music culture,' he admits, 'Like the old battle between analogue and digital, there'll always be a place for vinyl'. He gestures across his flat at the racks of 12's waiting to be transported, slapped on decks to cause typical Nasty havoc on the dancefloor.
Dance music is back on the up'n'up in 2008 and so, it appears, is the irrepressible Billy Nasty.
Support on the night comes from RE:TECH's JOE GOULD & Nexus Main man JAY MILLAR from Wexford. Doors open at 10:30 and admission is 12euro.

RE:TECH Present JORIS VOORN@The Loft Electric Avenue, Saturday 11th July
RE:TECH returns to THE LOFT Electric Avenue Waterford, Saturday 11th July with the Waterford debut of one of Europe's hottest DJ and produces at the moment in JORIS VOORN (Rejected)
Joris Voorn is a record producer and Dj from Rotterdam, Netherlands. Raised in a musical family, music naturallybecame an intrinsic part of Voornʼs life from an early age. Electronic music first caught his attention in the mid-90ʼs, and he started DJʼing in 1997. After developing a more focused interest in house and techno, Joris invested in the versatile MC-303 Groovebox and began to experiment with synth sounds and drumloops.
By the end of 2000 Joris began building a small studio to produce his own music, which led to his first release called ʻmuted trax pt.1ʼ on Keynote. His first EP was massive success, filling the record boxes of Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, DJ Rush and Technasia. In 2003 ʻLost memories Pt.1ʼ was released on Technasiaʼs SINO label and was followed by ʻLost memories Pt.2ʼ containing the anthem ʻIncidentʼ which was heard on dancefloors around the world.
After the success of ʻIncidentʼ, Voorn released his debut cd album called ʻFuture Historyʼ on the Sino label. Encompassing 3 years of ideas and inspiration, the cd contains 20 diverse tracks, a seamless soundscape that represents his arrival as one of the most relevant techno producers of this time.
In the summer of 2005 Joris Voornʼs new personal outlet called ʻgreenʼ saw the light of day. ʻA dedicated mindʼ was released as the first EP, which garnered success globally. He also completed his debut DJ mix CD for the Fuse club in Belgium. After Dave Clarke, DJ Hell and Technasia, Fuse presented Joris Voorn to mix part 4 of their international residentʼs dj mix albums. The mix contained over 40 tracks of timeless techno music mixed with the help of Ableton Live for its endless mixing and editing possibilities.
In 2006 the sophomore release under Voornʼs Green label, named ʻMPX_309ʼ, was a crossover techno work that was played out by techno, minimal, house and trance DJs. During the same year Voorn created his second album, released worldwide in June 2007. This new piece of work called ʻFrom a deep placeʼ featured many different styles of electronic music, ranging from atmospheric interludes to broken beats, house and deep soulful techno. The focus point of the ʻFrom a deep placeʼ CD has been the listener rather than the dancer and was received enthusiastically by the electronic music community. Some of the works were edited to more dj friendly tracks for the vinyl release of the album. During the summer of 2007 Joris has been touring with his new live performance in support of his album release.
More recently, Joris has been focusing on collaborative efforts producing remixes for respected and diverse artists such as Robert Babicz, Nic Fanciulli, Slam, Steve Angello, Sebo K and Jerome Sydenham. The ʻDark Flower Magnolia Mixʼ for Robert Babicz turned out to be another summer anthem in electronic dance music, and was a favourite of DJʼs like Sven Vath, Dubfire, Pete Tong and John Digweed among many others.
In 2008, following the success of his resident advisor podcast, Joris was invited to produce episode 14 of the Balance DJ mix CD series from Australia. Following in the footsteps of James Holden and Lee Burridge, Joris constructed a layered and seamless mix of electronic dance music on a double CD. An epic mix in the very best sense of the word, Balance 014 achieves the rare feat of combining variety and consistency, making it perfect for trainspotters and dancers alike. The tracks change quickly and quietly, but the groove stays. An accompanying world tour will follow where Joris will bring the essence of this studio project to the stage, using all different elements of the mix into a full range club experience.
Having established himself as a leading producer and DJ, Joris will be embarking on a new project called ʻA green0 commenti 166 giorni

RE:TECH Present JOEL MULL@The Loft, Saturday 9th May
After two sell out shows for the Recession Sessions RE:TECH is back on the the 9th May at the Loft, Electric Avenue with Swedish Techno legend JOEL MULL who has taken time out of his busy schedule playing festivals and major club gigs to play a rare intimate set at the Loft.
He started traveling around the globe more than a decade ago.
And quickly made himself well known as "The Swedish Techno soul" of electronic world. He made his choice in his early adolescence attending a music school and spending hours and days at the piano and keyboard. In the early nineties when the new phenomena "Rave" caught all his attention. His interest for electronic music and recording own material led to large sums of money being spend on drummachines, samplers and synthezisers . And soon the first 12" and techno track to be released was a collaboration between him and school friend ADAM BEYER. It got released 1993 on a American label based in New York, Direct Drive.
His Dj Career toke of when he began playing on parties around in the Underground clubs around Stockholm sometime around 1994. Not long after, he got an offer to hold his first Residency three times a week at UNIT CLUB, located on the famous Reeperbahn in Hamburg, Germany. The club had just opened in a new Venue and they searched for new talents to play their techno nights. Joel was Twenty at the time and this was an offer would be of the important ones. The chance to attend the best school a DJ could get. The venue had capacity for 1200 people. It was the first real opportunity to learn how to master the crowd thru the long journey of the night. It was not unusual to play 10 hour set and build his sets around different levels of styles. For over three years, 3 times in the month, he was warming up, closing and playing along side many of the important Djs in the national and international circuit.
Moving back to Stockholm in 1997 he had more time to focus on his productions and early 1998 his own imprint Inside records was born. He worked in the important record shop Planet Rhythm in Stockholm and also had his studio under the shop for a time and together with ADAM, JESPER DAHLBÄCK and CARI LEKEBUSCH they provided little Sweden with freshly pressed techno vinyl records. Everything revolved around records, playing them, selling them, producing them. A important time in his career and a foundation to what Joel is today was laid down around this period of time.
In the recent years Joel has focus on his Dj career more than ever which has led to that is touring schedule is busier than ever. And his productions and releases are getting more attention. He also holds a residency spot on the "Drumcode" label parties that Adam has been taking on the road since seven years. These parties are becoming a big successes since the beginning with sold out venues/clubs all around.
2007 we saw a string of releases and collaborations with artists such as SEAN PALM, VINCENZO & XPANSUL on few labels around, Audiomatique, Liebe details, Discos De lata. But the most important release was off course his artist Album "The Observer" on Harhouse. Soon after the release he did a series of limited Live performances at various clubs around the globe, in Japan, EU and North America. He integrateded Ableton live into his Dj set and used the mixer 3D from Allen&Heath to combine the two systems. The result was a fantastic.
2008 was also a busy year for Joel. With remixes and sinlgle releases for Nic Fanculli and his Saved records. The Face up ep was played the whole summer by all usual suspect.
The track "Red Light of dawn" released on Audiomatique got licensed to Steve Lawlers great VIVA serie. And was favourite by many players.
Also Cocoon recordings has taken him under their wings and more releases for the label is due to get out.
Truesoul, Audiomatique, Drumcode, Saved records, Cocoon, Harthouse, Railyard recordings…are SOME of the platforms which aid him spreading the message today.0 commenti 221 giorni
