Horrorthon 2008
A couple of mates and I decided to go the full hog this year and got ourselves 5 day passes to the Horrorthon in the IFI, 5 days of a back to back horror movie goodness, so this is just a brief synopsis of the movies we watched and my impression of them ^_^
Quarantine: A Hollywood remake of the 2007 acclaimed Spanish chiller ‘REC’. The story follows a TV presenter and her camera man as they go out on a supposedly routine call with the LA fire department, they unwittingly find themselves quarantined in a locked-down apartment building with a deadly virus which is turning the residents into homicidal maniacs.
So in essence a zombie flick with zombies more akin to 28 days later style zombies then your dawn of the dead variety. Lots of blood, guts and gore with a healthy dose of violence, screaming women and hunky men to scream at them to STFU. I quite enjoyed this one
---------------------------------------------------
Bad Biology: The synopsis for this movie reads that our two main protagonists are seeking “true love”. I however did not get this meaning, I just got the impression they just want to get their jollies, over and over again! ;P
Our main characters feature a female photographer with 7 clitorises with a penchant for killing her lovers during orgasm (she gets a tad carried away) and a man with a sentient massive penis with a drug addiction, his penis has the drug addiction.
Funny offensive and crude, not one for those of a sensitive nature.
----------------------------------------------------
The Funhouse: From the maker of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, frankly I expected more. The old classic story, a bunch of horny teens on a double date decide to spend the night at a carnival in the “fun house” or haunted house if you will. They soon witness a murder of one of the acts after she refuses to refund the freak boys money for a hand job (he cums really quickly and feels he’s been hard done by, $100 for a hand job, I’d probably feel the same way
) . Slow paced with a ridiculous looking freak boy the movie did nothing but bore me to tears.
----------------------------------------------------
Evil Dead II: In my and my friend’s opinion, this is just a remake of the first Evil Dead movie but despite the similarities this is still one of the funniest horrors around. Buckets of blood, demons and classic catchphrases make this movie one to watch, if you haven’t yet you’re really missing out.
----------------------------------------------------
Mindflesh: The story follows a London taxi driver (who for some reason never picks up a fare) whose obsession with a ghostly goddess becomes all too real when inter-dimensional guardians of the reality plains become aware that he is seeing things which he should not and punish him in an effort to make him stop. When he doesn’t they move on to his family and friends.
While I liked the idea of this movie, it was so poorly put together that we left thinking “what a pile of crap!”
------------------------------------------------------
Timecrimes: A low budget movie from Spanish writer-director Nacho Vigalondo. His own synopsis “A man travels accidentally back to the past and meets himself there. A naked girl in the midst of the forest. A weird guy with his face covered by a pink bandage. A disquieting mansion on the top of a hill. All of them pieces of an unpredictable jigsaw puzzle where terror, drama and suspense will lead to an unthinkable sort of crime. Who’s the murderer? Who’s the victim?”
Quite an enjoyable film, imaginative and creative... so it’ll no doubt be ruined by Hollywood sometime in the not too distant future!
-------------------------------------------------------
Night of the Lepus: To quote “the movie with giant killer rabbits with Doctor McCoy from Star Trek”.
That pretty much says it all really lol... Rabbits have been breeding like, well rabbits and now threaten the livelihoods of farme5 Comments 389 days

Latest on the tumour front
Soooo, just met with my surgeon yesterday (Tuesday), my latest scans show they actually got more of my tumour out than they'd previously thought, more like 96% of it and the final report is that its benign, so no further treatments required ^_^
On a not so happy note, I'm back to work next week *sniffles* Oh well, guess I had to go back eventually ;P8 Comments 522 days
