- À propos de moi
- We are Aberdeen University Students' Association. We are here to help students lucky enough to be studying at the University of Aberdeen and make their student lives even better!
You can find us in the swanky Hub on Elphinstone Road on the first and second floors. Our main reception is up on the top floor so pop in and visit us! We can help you get a job, find a flat, start volunteering...the list is endless!
If you are interested in joining one of our 50+ sports clubs or 60+ socieities then check out www.ausa.org.uk where you'll find all of the info and contact details. Get involved, you know you want to!
- Music
- We like live music. We have it at our Union. When we're not listening to live music we like Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, Dirty Pretty Things, Boy Kill Boy, Dartz! and Sonic Youth.
- Films
- We like the Matrix Trilogy and Lethal Weapon.
- Sports
- El Pres is an AFC season ticket holder so they deserve a mention. We love all of our homegrown Aberdeen University teams! Check out www.ausa.org.uk/sport to become one of our very special sports heroes!

FRESHERS WEEK!
Freshers Week is only 7 days away and here at AUSA we can't contain our excitement! The events are planned, the volunteers are being briefed and we're all set to have an amazing week.
Freshers packs are in the post for all UK students and should be arriving as we speak. Inside you will find your student handbook and handy academic diary to keep for the year (I know it's boring to be thinking about tutorials already but the diary will keep you straight during term!). You will also find your entertainment guide, some very helpful info about the Students' Association, some news of great offers available around town, and your freshers wristband. You should wear the wristband AT ALL TIMES in freshers week. Not only will it get you cheaper entry into Tunnels for the night time events but it will also distinguish you from the returning students and RGWho freshers! This will get you priority treatment from the 60 strong team of volunteers hired to help you in freshers week as well as some awesome deals from local businesses. Check out the flyer in your pack for more details! The wristband will also get you free entry into Vue cinema for the film festival.
International student postcards have been sent to all of you guys coming from outwith the UK and they have all of the info you need to come and collect your packs. They will be available from the volunteers transporting you to halls, at your halls and also from the Students' Association Reception on the 2nd floor of the Hub on campus.
One final thing - look out for the freshers volunteers at all of the events and round campus throughout the week. They will be in bright blue t-shirts and you won't be able to miss them! If you need anything at all then give them a shout. They are a lovely bunch and are there to help YOU! If you have any questions or problems then let them know and they'll be happy to help.
We look forward to seeing you all in Freshers Week and hope you are as excited as we are!

It's time for an update...
Everyone loves a bit of retro cool but we’re thinking our Blog has maybe taken it a bit far. It’s time to update folks!
We had an election because that’s what we do best and this month has seen the excitement of the Sabbatical officer handover. It’s almost time to say a fond farewell to the old Sabbs and make way for the brand spanking, beautiful new ones. Except for John, our VP Education and Employability who remains in place, less new but still beautiful!
So, drum roll please, here’s the newbies.
We say goodbye to Richard Miller and hello to Angela Fraser as Students’ Association President. Maybe now Rick will have the chance to get his hair cut…
Lynda MacDonald is getting her break from the academic appeals and passing them on to the new VP Advice and Support, Sakthi Sithamparanathan.
Claire Hobson joins the team to fill the fundraising boots of Drew Elliott as VP Charities.
James Fairwood has been substituted by a fresh pair of legs, Gordon Cox, in the role of VP Sport.
Helen Mackay steps in to replace Chris Mackenzie as the new VP Societies and Student Activities.
Last, but not least (we don’t want to give him a complex) John Hardey remains as VP Education and Employability.
Amongst the busy handover sessions the Saabs have been getting all worked up about Freshers Week. They are armed with fab new plans and are all getting excited about this year’s extravaganza which promises to be better than ever. Check out www.ausa.org.uk/freshers/events to see a taste of what’s to come. The site is being updated constantly with new events, purely because we wouldn’t want to spoil your appetite and have you take it all in at once. We’re nice like that…
The freshers week volunteer team is getting primed and ready for a week of fun and frolics
The University is also getting prepared for the new blood come September and has set up a lifeline website at www.abdn.ac.uk/newstudents (see what they did there?!). On there the freshers to be can grab all the information they need about registration, moving into halls and so on.
So that’s the news for now. We’ll be back soon with all the gossip on the new Sabb officers (we thought we’d let them settle in before spilling all of their secrets on the World Wide Web!) and more exciting news about Freshers Week. Until then, it’s goodbye from us.
P.s - If you have any questions, exciting news or general murmerings feel free to leave us a comment. If you're good looking, we'll get back to you!

AUSA gossip - the inside story!
Cynical Gaudie writers pay close attention, this is where all the latest dirt gets dished out on the on goings of SA! While all you students are running around looking for summer jobs, the sabbaticals you foolishly voted in are lounging around in shell suits enjoying the warm weather and charging large gin and tonics to the SA's account (class). Of course, this is all lies! The truth is far more tragic. In fact, the current sabbaticals, staff members and the soon-to-be sabbaticals are all getting their heads down and preparing for Freshers week (except for Richard who will be doing academic appeals, forever). So far the plans are ambitious, and everyone is feeling positive that this years Freshers week is going to be a massive hit (with the exception of some worrywarts, but you can't please everyone!). While your all off living it up this summer, the SA is getting geared up to up root and move to the Hub (aka the central ref). The new building is going to be awesome for the SA, and all the staff are delighted with their new cushy office space. Oh, and there will also be an improved services for you the students etc etc. But seriously folks, this year the SA is getting re-vamped, with a new image and a new location, things are really starting to heat up. If you have any ideas, or would like to make some suggestions (serious or funny) then please leave your comments here. Remember, the SA is here for you, so come and use us. You need a job, volunteering position, want to join and society or a sports club, want to get some advice? If we don't provide a service you want, tell us what you need and we'll see what we can do!
