THE BODY SHOP, L'OREAL AND NESTLE
L'Oreal own the Body Shop, and they said "L’Oréal stopped using laboratory animals for the evaluation of its finished cosmetic products since 1989. L’Oréal is totally committed to a future without tests on animals and complies with all EU and national laws."
"During the past 20 years, L’Oréal has heavily invested in the research, development and validation of alternative methods to animal testing..."
"L’Oréal’s stance on the subject of animal testing is the same as that of the Body Shop. The only difference is that Body Shop has a very public stance"

L'Oreal was subject to boycott calls from animal rights groups including PETA because of its animal testing policy. Since then L'Oreal has claimed that it no longer tests finished products on animals. This statement is OBVIOUSLY INTENDED TO MISLEAD since finished products do not require further testing and it implies that the ingredients are certainly still subject to tests.

Now this is what Nestle says: "Nestlé makes LIMITED use of animal testing, conducted under the authority and the responsibility of the Nestlé Research Centre."
"The total number of animals used in tests (almost exclusively rats and mice) has decreased significantly over the past years. Nevertheless, it will NOT be possible eliminate animal testing in food research completely for the foreseeable future." REMEMBER Nestle own 50% of L'Oreal.

What they did to Rodney:
We called him Rodney. He was a tall, gangly, flea-bitten shepherd mix. One ear stood up, shepherd style, and the other flopped over and bounced against his head like a rag doll when he ran. His head and feet were too big for his thin but muscular body. A stale, musty odor accompanied him from flea-infested skin and neglected ears. Altogether, he wasn't much to look at—one of thousands of dogs facing the world without the luxury of an owner.

I was in my third year of veterinary school and he came from the local dog pound. For the next quarter, four of us students would practice surgery techniques on him—the first of our small animal surgery training. He was always happy to see us—tail thumping wildly against the walls of his small steel cage. From the looks of him Rodney hadn't had much of a life, so a pat on the butt and a little walk around the college complex made his day. The first thing we did was neuter him, a seemingly benign project except it took us an hour to complete the usual 20-minute procedure, and anesthetic overdose kept him out for 36 hours. Afterward he recovered his strength quickly and felt good.
Two weeks later we did an abdominal exploratory, opening his abdomen, checking his organ inventory, and closing him again. This was the first major surgery for any of us, and with inadequate supervision we did not close him properly. By the next morning, his incision had opened and he was sitting on his small intestine. Hastily, we sewed him up again, and he survived. But it was a week or more before he could resume the walks he had come to eagerly anticipate. He would still wag his tail when he arrived and greet us with as much enthusiasm as he could muster.
The following week, again when he was under anesthesia, we broke his leg and repaired it with a steel pin. After this Rodney seemed in almost constant pain, his temperature rose, and he didn't rebound as he had in the past. His resiliency gone, despite antibiotic treatment, he never recovered completely. He could no longer manage his walks, and our visits generated only a weak thump of his tail. The shine was gone from his brown eyes. His operated leg remained still and swollen. The quarter was ending, and Rodney's days were numbered.
One afternoon we put him to sleep. As the life drained from his body and his eyes lost their focus, my attitude toward animal research began to change. I am a scientist, weaned on the scientific method, and should be a staunch believer on the use of animals for research. … After 15 years in the veterinary profession, I now believe there are moral and ethical considerations that outweigh the benefits.
Because we happen to be the most powerful species on earth, we humans have the ability—but not the right—to abuse the so-called lower animals. The ends do not justify the means.

HLS - Huntingdon Life Sciences, KFC, Iams & Mars!
HLS are the largest contract testing lab in Europe. They kill 500 animals a day in tests for products such as weedkiller, food colourings and drugs. HLS have been exposed at least 5 times for disgusting animal cruelty and rule breaking. They have about 70, 000 animals on site, including rabbits, cats, hamsters, dogs, guinea-pigs, birds and monkeys. These animals are destined to suffer and die in cruel, useless experiments. KFC has to be thee worst fast food restaurant for animal cruelty.Then there IAMS - who ruthlessly conduct experiments on animals to try to give their pet food a competitive marketing edge and Mars who also conduct incredibly cruel experiments for chocolate - apparantly!

  • Mass Animal Sacrifice Planned in Nepal


    Animal sacrifice is foreign to many in today’s day and age, but it still happens. One of the worst scenes of such slaughter in the world is the Gadhimai Jatra festival, held in the Bara district in the south of Nepal.
    Every five years, hundreds of men are licensed to kill buffalo, pigs, chickens, rats, goats, and pigeons, receiving a fee for each animal they take.

    Humane Society International is working with our local partners, Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre (KAT) and Animal Nepal, to prevent this reckless animal cruelty before the festival takes place November 24 & 25. - Two days.

    Cruelly, the animals are chased and hacked to death with knives in a competition to kill as many as possible within two days. During the last event, more than 200,000 animals were killed in just two days.
    According to Animal Welfare Network Nepal, the real beneficiaries are the festival organizers and business community, who drive up prices for animals in the lead up to the festival and then pressure local people to contribute livestock to the event.

    The details of these so-called “festivities” are particularly horrific. There is no slaughterhouse or system in place for humane killing; instead, the animals are kept trapped in enclosures. The “panchhbali,” or five offerings, involves slicing the throats of five kinds of animals (buffalo, goats, pigs, roosters and rats) with a knife. This is not a quick death, but slow and agonizing for the victims.

    Buffalo, due to their size, suffer the most. Men swinging swords, often drunk, enter the corral and begin to hack away at the huge beasts. They target the hind legs first to bring the animals down and then proceed with a slow chopping at the neck, often requiring tens of cuts to actually kill the animal. The cruelty is unspeakable and the pain these creatures endure is unfathomable.

    KAT - Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre and Animal Nepal are organizing a counter-campaign of peaceful meditation, and together we are petitioning the government, which has reportedly paid for an enclosure to hold thousands of buffalo ahead of the event, to stop the slaughter.

    This horrendous cruelty somehow existed without much publicity until this year. Animal advocates and religious leaders both within Nepal and around the world have displayed outrage and disgust and are working together to pressure on the Nepalese government to put a stop to the mass animal sacrifice. HSI is joining in this effort by working with two of our local partners in Nepal, Kathmandu Animal Treatment Center and Animal Nepal and asking our supporters to write to Nepalese leaders to voice their concern.

    Animal Nepal is organizing events in the capital ahead of the event and filing a case at the Supreme Court, as well as planning a symbolic ritual blessing in the hope that compassion will reign. HSI intends to keep the pressure on Nepalese leaders and help spread awareness of the horror of the event. Even “tradition” is no excuse for cruelty in a civilized society. As Mahatma Gandhi is credited with saying, “The greatness of a society and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals.”

  • Are Canada clubbing Cat's and Dog's now?


    Why doesn't that surprise me! The Canadian Government are pathetic and hopeless... call themselves a 'Government'
    They murder their Seals, their Bears, they have Puppy Farms, they do not care or respect animals at all... and now this, Cat's AND Dog's!

    Some members of the Canadian government seem to think it's okay for you to wear a hat made from someone's best friend. Or for your children to play with a toy made with hair skinned from a real cat.

    An internal memo shows government officials in Canada urged Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz not to follow the United States and Europe in barring cat and dog fur from entering the country.

    The reason?

    Politicians fear a Canadian ban on cat and dog fur could weaken their efforts to overturn seal product bans in other countries, jeopardizing the cruel and unnecessary slaughter of baby seals.

    It's appalling that Canada's government thinks additional cruelty is the way to continue an inherently cruel slaughter of seal pups for products no one needs. Government officials who support the trade in pet fur might as well take a hakapik to cats and dogs in Asia this spring while they're out bloodying the ice with baby seals.

    There is absolutely no reason why Canada cannot ban pet fur and do it immediately.

    Morgan Stanley dumps all their LSR/HLS shares...


    After a few days of peaceful demos, activists get a result - nearly 700,000 shares sold!

    Activists from Win Animal Rights launched a campaign to influence the new #1
    Huntingdon Life Sciences Investor, Morgan Stanley, (who recently bought LSR
    stock) to divest their large holding of LSR shares.

    With 679,225 shares of LSR stock, Morgan Stanley was a 5% owner of Huntingdon Life Sciences Also, many emails were sent to Morgan Stanley asking them not to deal with HLS (LSR).

    On the afternoon of August 1st, activists visited the homes of 5 senior executives of Morgan Stanley including the two co-presidents of the firm.

    On Thursday, August 6th, activists from Win Animal Rights continued their campaign to influence Morgan Stanley, activists visited the headquarters of Morgan Stanley at 1585 Broadway in New York City. This was followed by visits to the homes of multiple senior executives of Morgan Stanley.

    On Friday, August 7th and Monday, August 10th, several hundred thousands of LSR shares were dumped, resulting in a downward slide of the share price. On Wednesday, August 12th. Morgan Stanley notified the SEC of their divestiture.

    Here's a story: Felix was a macaque monkey who lived behind metal bars in a laboratory at Oxford University. He was forced to suffer numerous invasive cranial procedures and was given Parkinson's disease–like symptoms – even though non-human primates do not naturally get this disease.
