Delhi Baby
hello all!
writing this from the dirtiest internet cafe in delhi (mum would be appalled!) but its far far cheaper than the internet in the hotel! this is 1hour for 12pence! anyway thought i'd update you with how i'm doing!
arrived safely on sunday- flight was fine, i watched lots of films and they gave us plenty of food and i was sat next to this nice boy called mike whose on the program too so he got my life story for 8 hours!! really tired on sunday so checked into hotel, then napped for several horus! later on, we went down to the british council offices in delhi which are right in the centre of the city and very nice and air conditioned! we got our itinerary for the next 2 weeks and met the staff! then bed in the hotel- which btw is actually very nice and clean and classed as a 'moderate' hotel in the delhi guide so its not too bad. im sharing with alice whose nice
monday was busy busy! started early with breakfast- they do offer curry but i stuck to toast..! then off to Brit Council (BC) for morning lectures from a guy who was head of Pune University (the largest in India he kept saying!). he talked about india culture and his fave topic was the caste system so that was quite interesting! and then a lot about the economy which i didnt quite follow as i was very very tired! then lunch- curry! and then we went sightseeing round delhi! saw the India Gate which is a war memorial for ww1 soldiers and rather impressive! qutub minar- a muslim historical sight and the lotus temple. then shopping for a bit at a market complex which was quite fun- very very cheap here if u bargain! dinner at the hotel and then few drinks in the bar with people before bed!
today (tuesday) - BC again for morning lectures. this time more on indian etiquette and festivals. and then a presentation on indian music and indian dance which was really good tho a shame we couldnt join in! after lunch, we went to the National Museum- where me and Caitlin (my bessie on the trip!) snuck off from the rest of group and looked at the stuff we wanted to see incl textiles, jewellery, swords and musical instruments! after this, im heading to connaught place which is the key restaurant/shopping part of the city!
hope youre all well anyway! weather is very very hot and humid- 35degrees! not ill yet...! and food is pretty good, im getting use to the curry! everyones pretty friendly and iv established a set of mates to go round town with! next week, im staying in delhi with other 9 people in group whilst everyone else trvales on. staying with host family on my own after that for 2 weeks but actually reli looking forward to that! then my business placement in bangalore is with tesco...!!! sure i wont be working on the tills tho...! might be fun! still can't quite believe im here but ill try and upload some photos at some point!

1 DAY TO GO...
In less than 24 hours, I should be at Heathrow Airport waiting for our Virgin Atlantic flight to New Delhi
Massively excited and can't believe the time has finally come!!
I've finally packed (and re-packed and again...) all my stuff and my case is only 1.4kg over the weight limit so shouldn't be too bad...! Got all the essentials including flip flops, sun cream and sunglasses! I'm being optimistic during Monsoon season
I'm going to write to this as often as possible so please follow the progress and keep in touch

Pre-Departure Briefing
Ok, my first blog about the Fellowship- Here goes!
I've been selected to be a Media Leader for my area (North East!) so I headed down to the Bebo offices in London on Thursday to learn about the Bebo website that's been set up for the Fellowship- www.bebo.com/globalfellowship PLEASE JOIN THE GROUP AND SUPPORT US!
We took LOADS of pics for the site (including some particularly nice ones of us wearing full Bebo gear complete with t-shirts and baseball caps!) It was really good to meet all the other Media Leaders and get to know the people I'll be travelling to India with in summer!
On Friday, we had our Pre-Departure Briefing which was held at 15Hatfields in Southwark. I got to meet my group I'll spend the 6 weeks with, learn a bit about India (including some important phrases- Namaste!) and find out more about the scheme. We also got a recorded message from Gordon Brown wishing us good luck for the summer!! We visited the Shell Centre to learn about the companies we'll be having placements with in the country and in the evening, there was a reception where Nihal from Radio 1 gave a speech! I had a good chat with Nihal afterwards about the controversy behind Glastonbury this year and meeting Angelina Jolie
I'm really excited to be taking part in the Global Fellowship as so far everyone's been really friendly and we've all got on really well straight away! I've also managed to get my super-cool Kodak 12MP camera working now so watch out for the photos coming soon...

And hey, if you do screw up, just remember that I'll be there to laugh heartily at your misfortune whilst fixing anything
