About Me

Tagline
Helping to destroy Geek cred' since '89.
Me, Myself, and I
Hi, I'm Josh.
There's not much to say about me really. I haven't really grown up anywhere interesting and I've not really done much interesting stuff in my life since now and doing the Prime Minister's Global Fellowship.
I am an extremely laid back person, which often has it downsides as I generally don't care about anything outside of my own back yard. Having said that there are some things I am extremely passionate about; one of which is young people and their portrayal in the Media. As such I got involved with a number of Projects around Leicestershire and here I am today.
My other main passions are rock music and computer games. I'm a total Nintendo Fanboy (although I did buy an Xbox 360) and I love the Zelda games.
I'm a Discriptivist but do have a serious Prescriptivist streak to me and am fascinated by linguistics. Hopefully in the future I'll find my way into doing a LInguistics Degree, but that'll follow perhaps becoming a Youth Worker.
Music
Muse, Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver, Rilo Kiley, Green Day, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Suede, Pulp, Placebo, White Snake, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Dragonforce, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Darkness, Feeder, Slipknot, Vampire Weekend, No Doubt, Disturbed, [more soon].
Films
V for Vendetta, Hot Fuzz, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Monty Python as a rule, Juno, Iron Man.
Sports
Major League Gaming (yes it is a competetive sport)
Football ONLY when it's England playing. Other than that I refuse to even consider Football as entertainment.
Like Rugby, Hockey, Table Tennis.
Scared Of
Spiders, Needles and I'm also quite squeamish.
Happiest When
In order:
Correcting someone, With friends, Gaming, Sleeping.
TV Programs
I've recently got into some Japanse Anime, my favourite being Gurren Lagan.
I also like:
Hustle, Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Skins, Shameless, Deadliest Catch, Scrubs, Two and a Half Men.

    Well Saturday night was interesting.
I spent a good 2 hours in the bathroom, washing and shaving parts I'd never shaved before. Don't speak, I know just what you're thinking - this isn't X-rated I was actually referring to my legs, as I was going as a girl. So there I was sat in the tub with the shower going, shaving my legs with a chin razor and Gilette Fusion Shaving foam (that stuff ain't cheap), clogging the drains and everything. I had a bit of stubble left afterwards but I think for a guy I did exceptionally well.

Luckily for my bank balance I didn't actually have to fork out for clothes as my friend Aisha lent be a full-length ball gown that fit everywhere, except for the boobs. Many things were tried to keep it up, from packing it out with tissue in the hope that it'd wedge it up, to actually giving me a bra and some gel things as a way to "imitate" boobs. We eventually settled on just having a large safety pin at the back holding it in tight enough for it to stay up without it falling down.

So with me dressed (literally), make up on, with my customary DCs on, my fellow female-guy friends and my fully-female friends walked the 10 minutes to the nearest bar, sat down and drank ourselves silly. There were lots of photos and some video footage but unfortunately the camera was with Ella as she had a bag and I had no pockets or anywhere to store it. So I left without the camera.

It's ok though, because after the bar we went into a gay bar for a few reasons.
    1) It was hard-house night and a lot of my friends like hard house quite a lot.
    2) It's cheap and has excellent dancing facilities
    3) The three guys dressed in drag (me being one of them) weren't likely to get started on for being dressed as girls

The most annoying thing about the whole night was that I bugged Katie (the PMGF helper) with so much crap, most of which was "gimme ma' passport kthx" and I didn't get IDd once.. not ONCE!
Katie coulda been saved a whole load of hassle (Sorry Katie!!) and aggro from me. Oh well, can't be helped now.

Anyway, that was saturday, lots of fun, drinking, drunken dancing, I totally chatted some girl up but unfortunately had to leave before I got her number which sucks. But I do get to brag that I effectively pulled, in a dress! Check me.

On the subject of the fellowship.. Well panic has set in, packing is going horribly wrong and I feel so underprepared.
Luckily the good people on The Jitty (seriously, check that site out, the forums especially) have been advising me on what to get. So I feel slightly better.

Tomorrow is the get together at my house to say goodbye to my closest friends, tears will be shed, stories will be swapped and the Wii will be played. Let's hope it's a gudden eh?
This is possibly my last blog from here in the boring UK. So I bid you adue and will be updating soon, from hot HOT China!

Well it seems I have accumilated a fanbase for my blogs, maybe I should think about going professional? Maybe not.
Well today was fun, at around 4 in the morning I managed to text my dad, who is in hospital with his second wife (my step mum) as she's pregnant with another baby. This makes her seventh child and my dad's tenth! He actually has 10 children (or will when it's born, I don't know yet)!!
Needless to say, due to the extraordinarily late night (even for me) the next morning was not actually one. It was infact around 1pm when I got up. So after stumbling downstairs with hair that wouldn't have looked out of place in 'Rocky Horror' and eyes practically glued together in nothing but a t-shirt and some boxers (cue wolf whistles from females) and managing to get out
"Seen..*gasp*..burton..*gasp*" to Cat who distinctly replied (knowing me as she does) with
"Do you mean 'have you seen my burton bag?'"
    *Grunt*
"Back of the chair in the living room"
So I stumbled into the living room where it was NOT, turns out the cow had been winding me up and the living room was full of my friends. Nice.
So I went back into the kitchen, shouted a bit and when upstairs to find my nice new combats, dragged them on and then went back downstairs into the kitchen following the unmistakable smell of..
    "Is that chips cooking?"
"Yes, but there's only enough for me and Lucie but there's some still left, they're in the freezer"
Half an hour later I was tucking into oven chips and fried eggs for breakfast. Heaven. Seriously I was basically in ecstasy. There simply is nothing better than greasy food with added grease to start your already belated day.

After I'd finished eating I looked out the window to discover (to my later peril) that it was HAMMERING it down, seriously it looked like there was about to be a storm! I was not impressed, luckily I had planned on spending the day playing computer games on my pc (whoa sounds like a change doesn't it?).
I came back to my computer, to a messenger message waiting for me.
"Fancy playing a game of poker tonight? £5 buy-in, winner takes all, my house, 8pm" from my old friend. So I sent a message back saying "sure" and proceeded to get ready.
Poker was fun, we all sat around playing, whilst alternately picking random youtube videos to watch. My favourite is the quite frankly pathetic videos of people finding "devil faces" or "fallen angel faces" in the smoke as a result of the twin towers getting hit in 9/11. Now 9/11 was a tragedy, no doubt about it. My heart goes out to all those that lost loved ones in the event but seriously.. Devil faces in the smoke? You can find anything if you're looking for it. People are too hungry for a conspiracy in my humble opinion. All these people going "it wer da SEE EYE AY dat did it. I'm tellin ya!" should just get off their high horse and get a life. Even if it was a conspiracy, who cares anymore? Nobody cares what you've got to say and the CIA is always going to be able to cover it up.
Granted there are people who do care, I had someone who told me about someone he knew that apparently was on the phone to someone in the towers at the time and his last words were something like "It scares the hell out of me, because the end is all I can see" and "I had so much left to do with my life" etc. Makes you think doesn't it? Atleast religious people have peace in death, but then this is becoming to morbid for my liking so I'll leave it here.

Anyway with the customary rant out of the way and my day explained to the best of my tired mind's ability I bid you adue.
I've also come to think that I am going to add a lyric to each of my blogs somewhere, but the trick is finding it. If you can find the lyric, the band and the song then well done you. Perhaps a little private thing between me and my blog-readers.
    Happy hunting!

Well today was fun! My cheque from college cleared yesterday so me and my ex [E] and her bestish friend [R] (who is also quite awesome) went shopping and I rediscovered why I should never shop with two females. "Omg this is SO good, you HAVE to try this on! This too! And this and this and this.." and you get the idea.
It started out by me walking into town as I always do, getting to the clock tower and then getting a phonecall "this'll be her telling me she's running late".
I was right, but I didn't know how right I was.
"Me and R are running late"
    "How late?"
"Well I don't know about her, but I'm still at home"
    "What?!"
"It's ok, buy the boring things then meet up with her half an hour later"
So I did, and I met up with R half an hour after the original meeting time. A whole HOUR later E turned up, looking sheepish enough to not validate a good shouting at, not that it would've mattered as she knows I wouldn't mean it, and she wouldn't care anyway.

So off we troddled to find me a backpack. After accumilating a backpack for rather cheap in a sale we decided it would be advisable to go buy a suitcase, or I would be carrying my 6 weeks worth of stuff in aforementioned backpack. Unluckily the suitcase shop had been turned into ANOTHER girly clothes shop (like there aren't enough in town anyway?) but luckily Argos was across the road, so we went there and I ordered a cheap 2-piece set. When it came to "customer number 291 to your collection point please" I scurried along excitedly to collection point "B", feeling like I'd won the £20 lottery.
It was hee-UGE. I did not think it would be that big. I was immediately terrified as I could not carry this big box around. Luckily E decided it was a good idea to take suitcase out of the box and use it to carry the shopping around. I knew there was a reason I kept her around.

After the near-traumatising episode with the suitcase we decided it was time to take a visit to my gaming buddy and also extremely close friend [S] (who is just a good a gamer as me, and when you realise just how arrogant I am, and how much pride I take in my gaming skills you'll realise how much that statement means) who works in Waterstones. After a few minutes sending him looking for books we actually didn't want I decided on buying Guinness Book of Records 2008: Gamer's Edition, which btw is well worth a read if you're even slightly into gaming, or even just want to know a couple of cool facts. For example, Super Mario Bros (first mario game ever, if you don't include jump-man being mario) has sold over 49 million copies worldwide! And Legend of Zelda is the longest running action series in video gaming history! Fascinating stuff.

Anyway after terrorising S for a bit we went to buy me a suit, seeing as I'll be the guest of a global company. So I went shopping round and found a decent looking grey one, tried it on and..OHMIGOD! I looked and felt like a fool. The moment I stepped out of the changing rooms E and R burst out laughing. Apparently I don't look half bad, but it was the shock of seeing me in a suit that did it. So I bought it, something that wasn't covered by the budget college gave me, so I'm going to ask them for some money back if I can, all £65 of it. I need that money for other stuff I need.

Well that's my mini-essay for anybody to read. Not that I doubt anybody will, but hey I don't mind. It's the writing I enjoy.

Oh I'm a hardcore English Language geek seriously! And I have NO IDEA where I was lol, I would have had your back linguistically blatantly!
I do not like Deborah Tannen, think Chomsky's very questionnable and am rather partial to a little Piaget also, just for the record.
Haha I can't believe you're a language geek too, loooove it. I be off to India- where abouts in the world are you going?
    Have some English Language luv.

you no the current photos on global fellowship page- each pic is in a new album so they're taking up all the limited number of albums we're able to have. Wouldn't it be better to group them into 3 different albums- India, Brazil and China? then it'll be easier to upload more whilst we're away.
just a thought... but thought i'd check with others before i started shifting photos and pics around etc
