The smoky eyed look is one of the most tricky to recreate but can transform your look with a rock chick super sexy edge like no other make up technique! The best way to learn is to have a go, remember one of the great things about make up is that you can wipe it all off and start again.

Firstly, line the eye with a dark kohl pencil as close to the lash line as possible, don¹t worry if it’s not perfectly neat as you can blend the edges with a cotton bud to soften.
Also apply in-between the lashes of the lower eye; again blend well with a
cotton bud. 17’s soft liner pen is easy to use and the wet look effect stays put long into the night.

Now move on to the shadow, the easiest way to create smouldering eyes is to
opt for a medium shade rather than a black shadow. Go for a shadow with a
slight shimmer rather than a matt as they are much easier to blend. Modern
smoky eyes are not just about black; my favourite shades are graphic grey, inky purple, warm deep bronze and rich khaki . Apply a wash of shadow using a brush all over the lid and into the socket and using a cotton bud, blending the edges away to nothing. You can always add a little more in to the socket to create more definition and depth but be sure to blend the edges well.

For a super cool twist layer a modern metallic over the eyelid to create multi-dimensional depth, our 17 metallic eye pencils are perfect for this as they are creamy and chunky making them easy to use as an added flash of colour.


Next apply a good coat of black mascara (17 infinite lash is super hot for this look) and be sure to get right down to the roots. This technique will ensure the darkest area is concentrated close to the lashes and prevent the panda effect.

When doing smoky eyes always do your eye make-up before the rest of your face this is because no matter how careful you are bits of dark powder will always drop giving the rest of your make-up a grubby finish.
