    - Arsenal's new signings are "amazing", according to Bacary Sagna. The right back knew a thing or two about Marouane Chamakh and Laurent Koscielny before they arrived at Emirates Stadium because, like Sagna, they both shone in France’s Ligue 1. And on the evidence of the Emirates Cup, Arsène Wenger has made a couple of shrewd purchases. Former Bordeaux striker Chamakh scored on his home debut and impressed with his powerful running and hold-up play, while Koscielny's quick-thinking and timely interceptions caught the eye against Milan. The centre back didn’t have a full 90 minutes on Sunday but Sagna has seen enough to convince him that Arsenal will be strengthened by their new recruits. "The new signings are amazing," said Sagna. "I knew them both from France and I am not surprised to see them playing as they are. They are very confident and are very settled already which is good for them and the team. "Chamakh can make the difference because he is a good player, can keep the ball and score great goals. It will be very important to have a player like that in front of goal. "I will trust him with the ball because he can keep it quite easily and it will give us a chance to come and support him. "He looks like [Emmanuel] Adebayor – they are both very good in front of goal and it’s a good thing for the team."

    - Leeds United are hoping to conclude a deal to bring Arsenal starlet Sanchez Watt back to Elland Road, skysports.com understands. A host of clubs have been chasing the 19-year-old forward, who can play up front or on the flank. Arsene Wenger and Arsenal have big hopes that Watt can make the breakthrough at the Emirates Stadium, but they are keen for their best young talent to gain first-team experience elsewhere. Watt spent time out on loan last season firstly with Southend and then with Leeds, who are now favourites to seal his signature again. Watt will sign on loan with Leeds, with the deal likely to run to January with a view to extending it if all parties are happy.

    - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that he is not close to signing any new players but has refused to confirm or deny interest in centre-back Per Mertesacker. The giant Germany international has been repeatedly linked with the Gunners this summer as they search for additional replacements for Sol Campbell, William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre. Wenger has already signed Laurent Koscielny this summer and he is thought to be interested in Udinese's Cristian Zapata as it is expected that he will sign another defender before the end of August. But after Sunday's victory over Celtic, which clinched the Emirates Cup, the Frenchman insisted that he was "not close to signing anybody". Asked if Werder Bremen's Mertesacker would fit the bill, he said: "I wouldn't like to comment on names because it raises the price straightaway 50 per cent."

    - Manuel Almunia insists he is not worried about trying to convince Arsene Wenger that he deserves to stay at Arsenal. The goalkeeper has been linked with a return to Spanish football amid reports Wenger is looking to bring in a new No.1 at Emirates Stadium. Fulham veteran Mark Schwarzer is reportedly a target for Wenger and that has led to doubts over Almunia's future with the Gunners after six years in North London. However, after a solid performance in Sunday's Emirates Cup win over Celtic, the 33-year-old confirmed he is planning to stay with Arsenal. "I don't need to convince anybody, I just do my job," Almunia told Sky Sports. "I have a couple more years on my contract and that's it, I'm an Arsenal player."
