Week 10/11
20hour bus

We left Hanoi knowing we had a horrible 20hour bus journey ahead of us before we got to Laos. The journey actually took 22hours and the stop over at the Vietnamese-Laos crossing took 2hours again! When i was sleeping james came back with jay and clare to tell me he had seen some weird sights in the past 15mins. A heard of water buffalo, people sleeping under the bus, men at the border walking around with ak-47 and a vietnamese man farting to himself thinking he was the only one that could hear! After we got through the border we still had 6hours. We met 3 really funny english guys, nick, chris and sean on the bus. We arrived in Vientien at about 4pm and all checked into the same guesthouse. Clare and I fell asleep but the 5boys (3english,1irish,1scot) headed bowling and scared many a tuk tuk driver!) we left for Vang Vieng the next morning...tubing was on the horizon!
After a day of rest we went tubing and none of us knew exactly what to expect. We were each given life jackets and huge tire tubes and pushed down a river! There were make shift bars at the sides of the river where the bar men would throw ropes out to the tubers and pull them in for a drink! That wasnt all! Rope swings that swung 30ft into the air (that is not an exageration!) and flying foxes that stood 20ft up! The guys were in heaven and were jumping off everything they could see, safely obviously! We went to another bar and another! it was great fun floating in the tubes all day. At one bar was a volley ball mud pit and at another was a proper volley ball court and ping pong table. I have never seen anybody with such slow reactions as james had playing volley ball!! he had consumed a whiskey bucket though! The funniest thing was when sean ran out into the volley ball court shouting 'yey volley ball before getting hit in the face by the ball and lying in a puddle of mud laughing!!! We all made it back safely from tubing...but awaiting us was the dreaded game of 'ring of fire'
RING O' FIRE!
a drinking game which involves a pack of cards spread in a circle around a cup in the middle of the table. Each card stands for something different and on each turn sombody picks a card. The king card stands for add to pot' so once it has been picked everyone must add their drink to the cup in the middle of the table. If someone breaks the ring of cards they must drink whats in the cup! Eww! I cant remember exactly what card stands for what but you also have...
Snake eyes - nobody can look into that card holders eyes if they do they must take a drink
Freeze master - the card holder holds a pose at any time in the game the last to notice takes a drink
steal a power - steal any opponents 'power'
drink half your drink - pretty obvious
half master - this person has the power to tell anyone to down half their drink
the dreaded arrogance - put some of your own drink in a different cup flip a coin and call heads or tales if you are right you pass it on to the next person...this goes on with people adding their drinks until someone calls the wrong side of the coin and has to 'CONSUME'
rules master - invent any new rule to the game
....the list of cards goes on but thats all i can remember. WARNING - this game will be brought back to scotland and ireland!
We visited a blue lagoon which was beautiful if not a bit cold. It was a nice way to relax after the tubing! Clare and I headed to the town as the boys went on another tubing trip. We went to a cafe in the town, one of several that shows friends episodes back to back all day long!
The english guys left yesterday but not without leaving a gap in the travelling groups hearts! Today we relax maybe go watch friends and we leave tomorrow for Thailand. Clare and Jay leave us in 4days so we make our way to Bangkok then down to the southern islands for a week...then WE COME HOME!!!!!!!!! xxx0 commentaires 439 jours

Week nine
We arrived in Hue and after finding a very nice cheap hotel with swimming pool we set about looking for food. A burger yey! We headed to a place called the DMZ bar and read the funny grafitti on the walls that had been left by fellow travellers. It was easy to pick out the scottish quotes ''moan the gers' 'scotland the brave' and normally any other one with sweary words! That night we met a really nice english couple called clare and james and an irish couple called clare and jay. we hit it off with the irish couple and ended up heading to a club with them. they had met an australian guy called ben and an english girl called harriot. We boogied the night away, james tried to sing along with the red hot chili peppers and we called it a night. Next day we did nothing except swim, sun bathe and read.
We arrived in Hanoi after a 13hour bus journey...yuk. I accidently talked outloud in my sleep on the bus....rather embarrassing. We went to the big market where i got some snazzy plates! James bought himself a new cigarette holder, because he is too lazy to hold a malboro packet.(?) That night we met up with Jay and Clare again and played some pool. We had a bus to catch the next morning to Halong Bay so we called it a night at 2am. Up at 7 and very tired we craved a bacon roll but settled for pain au chocolat. We hopped on a boat that took us out of Halong Bay and around Cat Ba island. Cat Ba island is the biggest island and the only populated one out of the 2000 small islands that surround it. It was a beautiful day! We are pretty sure we saw a shark or if not an almighty fish. We went to visit caves that were discovered in 1992 by a fisherman...quite a find if you ask me! then we went to our hotel ans fell asleep straight away.
Today we were refreshed and ready to go. We knew we were going to Cat Ba national park for a trek but we didnt expect a 4hour trek with jaggy rocks. We were dripping in sweat and a small number of us went right to the peak. James convinced me to go up as i would have walked all that way for nothing. Im very grateful because the view was astounding. We were surrounded by trees and more mountains and in the distance we saw the sea. Our feet were battered and bruised but we got some good pictures on james video camera. Going kayaking around the islands later on today. We head back to Hanoi tomorrow whee we are going to take in the sights a bit more (eg Ho Chi Minhs embalmed corpse and various museums) Our visas run out on the 10th so we aim to be in Laos before then.

Hello everyone!
Just to let you know that for my birthday and for a few of my flatmates birthdays, we are having a joint party on thursday the 19th of march. Theme is cowboys and indians and the party is at my flat in glasgow. Its nae bother if you cant make it. Hope you are all well and sorry if I miss anyone out- if so spread the word.
