「好，過了三班門口，再走六步，轉頭。」傑克的腦袋裡如此計算著。
「一步，兩步…」每走一步，他的期待就漲的愈高。
「六步！轉頭！」其實傑克的心中著急不安，但是他裝作不在意地轉了頭。
「蘿絲，今天她倚在自己的桌子上，正在跟同學聊天。」看到她甜甜的笑，傑
克多麼想停下他的腳步，但是他不能讓蘿絲發現，他不只不能停下腳步，他還
必須再自然地轉回頭。
「不可以看太久，看太久會讓人起疑，待會兒我還可以走回來，走回來的時候
，是經過花台之後的第五步…。」
傑克最愛看蘿絲笑的時候，微微鼓起的兩頰。他想起第一次撞見她的時候，還
真的是「撞見」，不！他沒有撞到她，差一點。那一天下課，跟著同學一股腦
兒衝出教室，就要往籃球場奔去，蘿絲也正好從她班上走出來，正要撞個滿懷
之際，傑克下意識地煞了車！「還好，多年的籃球不是白打的，這急停的工夫
我還做的不錯。」當他還這麼想的時候，有人對他說話，聲音清清亮亮，但是
略帶著不安與脾氣。
「嚇我一跳！」
「對不起，對不起。」傑克直接就點頭道了歉，這時候才看了蘿絲一眼，蘿絲
正好從微微生氣的眼神中平復下來，並且鼓起她的雙頰揚起微笑。
「沒有關係。」她說，然後轉身就走了。之後，她不知道，傑克在那一節下課
無法把籃球投進籃框，他也不知道傑克沒有忘記那鼓起雙頰的笑容，一直到現
在。
很快地，傑克就知道蘿絲的名字，很快地，他也知道蘿絲就坐在靠窗第二排的
第四個位子，很快地，他學會用一種「自然」的方式來看她。上課時腦中除了
老師的話語之外，還多了那鼓起雙頰的笑容，他不再打瞌睡，他寧願利用這個
時間想像各種方法，給自己獲得更多的機會來看她，並且不被人發現。
但是怎麼可能不被人發現呢？起碼，平日一起打球的安迪與小馬就發現了，傑
克不再跟著他們一下課就衝到籃球場，他經常會說：「我今天不想打球。」而
且老是一個人站在走廊上，一副心事重重的樣子。以往他們三個人打球的默契
太好了，所以一下子，安迪與小馬就發現傑克偶爾看隔壁班的眼神不對。小馬
更厲害了，他之所以叫「小馬」，那是因為他素有「馬神（把馬子的神）」的
封號，但是為了不要太囂張，就要朋友們只叫他「小馬」。他的直覺告訴他，
