Slogan
worship service for 3's and under and their grown-ups
Tout sur moi
PATCH (Parent and Toddler Church) happens at Claremont on the second Sunday of each month (except July and August). PATCH is held in our creche room, a familiar room for our youngest children. Our creche children attend with their parents as well as the youngest Sunday school class and their teachers.
Seating and "props": small chairs in a semi-circle in front of a little table. On the table, we have our PATCH candle, and under the table we have a cardboard box, decorated with patches of paper and guarded by "Patch" the dog - a big soft-toy dog with a patch over one eye.

From September 2008, we will be trying out a new format to fit in with the changes going on with our Sunday school. We will meet at 10.30am in the creche room as usual, and have our usual 20 mins of songs, story and craft. We're then going to have a wee snack, and a cuppa for the grown-ups, with a chance for a chat and to get to know each other before going into the main church with the rest of the Sunday school

  • Format of a PATCH Praise service

    * welcome
    * light candle - to remind us that Jesus is with us
    * prayer
    * song
    * leader wonders what we are going to be thinking about today - gets children and adults to shout, after 3 :"WHAT'S IN THE BOX, PATCH?!"
    * Patch, the dog, is moved from the top of the box and the box is opened to reveal, one by one, items that help adults and children together think about the theme/story - some items can get passed round, others left in front of the box
    * the craft is introduced (again, from the box) as a way of helping us remember about the theme story, and the craft materials appear from the box too. It's always a very simple craft, so that the children can have some ownership of it
    *song, bringing everyone together again
    *prayer
    *blow out candle - but reminding everyone that Jesus is with us all the time, even when the candle is blown out.
    * creche children stay in creche, 3 yr olds go to their Sunday school class, and adults can do what they like! - whether that's staying in creche, going into the main service, or going home!

    Hi Karen ( I assume it's yourself who's updating the patch site!) Just read the latest blog entry about the changes to Sunday School and think your second suggestion would be the best option, going back in with CAKES. I don't think people would manage to make meeting at another time quite so easily. I know that Sundays tend to be my busiest day of the week with lots of visiting getting done etc. I also think the idea of a cuppa and a chat is quite appealing. Love Mhairi x
