George will qualify as perhaps the most famous person in the entire 70-71 album. As a Leeds fan with no direct memory of the Sixties, his legendary brilliance as the World's most skilful footballer largely passed me by. My first hand memories are more of the troubled fading superstar, who missed training sessions and played for rubbish clubs ... like Fulham :-)
But everyone who follows football learns the George Best stories from both on and off the pitch, and without the natural talent he would never have made the grade as one of football's most glamorous names.
He was a member of the Manchester United side that robbed Leeds of the Championship in 1965, and the Championship side of 1967 that subsequently won the European Cup in 1968 - the first English side to ever do so, and he was named European Footballer of the Year at the same time. Unfortunately, as a Northern Ireland international, he remains probably the greatest player never to play in the World Cup Finals.
Everyone knows what happened next, Man U went down hill, and George's career slipped with it. There were high profile relationships, brushes with the law, naughty words in front of Terry Wogan, but it had little to do with football. Throughout his late and post-football career, George continued to be very media friendly. When George was 50, the UK's national television devoted an evening to him. So the myth continued to grow out of the legend.
Sadly though, George never overcame alcoholism, and after a much publicised liver transplant, began to drink again. Before he reached 60 he died after a long illness. No footballer before him has received as much attention as he did, even in death. His last public photograph was on the News of the World front page the weekend before he died. He wanted people to see it, to warn them of the terrible effects alcohol can have on a person's life.
Now he is in peace we can concentrate on remembering George as one of the greatest footballers ever to play the game. He is often called the football 's first modern celebrity, and that may be why some people know his name, but let history record that he was a footballer first and the first among footballers.
George probably still qualifies as Stockport County's most illustrious name.

Dear Guerrero Family, I had the pleasure of meeting Eddie Guerrero and his family as he made an appearance at my school site for the WWE sponsored Get R.E.A.L. program. Both Eddie and Chavo Guerrero spoke to over 300 students and their families one morning in March, during our Spring Break. They spoke to our students about showing respect to their parents and staying in school. Eddie's honesty regarding his past bouts with alcohol and drug dependency truly allowed the students to respect him and all he had gone through. Both Eddie and Chavo spoke from their hearts. It was obvious to all those in attendance that Eddie loves his family and his family loves him. Upon hearing of Eddie's passing, many students brought photos and autographs that they got that day from Eddie and Chavo, to school to share with friends. There is true saddness at my school, in my community and in the wrestling world for the untimely death of such a humble, kind hearted, and hard working athlete who did not ask to be a role model... but in reality he was. Eddie's perseverance toward living a sober life is an example to us all. May the outpouring of love shown to the Guerrero Family allow them some comfort at this very difficult time. I must say I still in shock and I refuse to believe that Eddie Guerrero will not entertain us again with his incredible talent, great charisma and unstoppable energy. I received a SMS with this sad news while I was watching a WWE SmackDown! show and Eddie was right there wrestling Ken Kennedy in a 6-man tag team match and I was paralyzed looking at the screen and confused at how that man in front of me, with all that energy left us so soon. Eddie was trully one of the msot talented wrestlers of all time, a real and rare total package of this business, with great in-ring ability, mic skills, charisma and originality. The only man on Earth who could legally lie, cheat and steal without people's disapproval. And, of course, a great example of how our will can make us fight against demons and beat the hell out of them.
Thank you Eddie for all these years of quality entertainment, thank you for your example, thank you for the many times you make me smile, laugh and love this sport and performers of your type. I know this might sound strange , but how would cope if your father lost the use of his legs. It all started in the year 1998.I was only ten when it happend, i was at home playing on my p.c ( not this one ),when there was a phone call , my nanny picked it up. It was my mum , she sounded terrifed,i asked my nan what was wrong.She said "your fathers crashed his motorbike and has been taken to the matter hospital". The next day i was told my father would never walk again.

This is what the doctor said to my mum "Your husband has broken his leg and we have to put a bar in it, he has also slipped a disck in his back and we also have to steel bar in it"my mum was shocked.She told me the very next day , what she was told.the next day i went to see him ,when i saw him in the hospital he had two blak eyes ,a and a bloody nose.The next month we bought the guy who hit my dad to court, we won and got loads of money my sister and broter got £10000(punt) each and i am getting €30000 when i turn 18.Skip to the presant and my father has done well for himself.

He has bought an rx eight , 4 rx 7s and 2 cosmos. he owns 1 of the rx7s and does up the others and sells them.We have big extention on the house.We have a lift for my dad in is frontroom.I also raised €2,000 for the irish wheelchair foundation. As you can read i had it pretty rough for a while. Until i met some VERYgood freinds in newpark.They know who they are.
