About Me

Tagline
...
Me, Myself, and I
Well, recently, as many of you probably know, an article was posted in the Daily Mail newspaper blaming Emo music and My Chemical Romance in particular for a young girls death.

And I thought WTF.

Then this reminded me of when Marilyn Manson got blamed for Columbine, which then reminded me of the news program which told of the 'dangers of the Emo/ goth culture'

MUSIC IS NOT TO BLAME!!!
The media just seems to need to find someone to blame, other than looking at how they portray things themselves.

I thought of how much music means to me and many others and I got really angry.

So please join this group to spread the message that music is not to blame'

My Chemical Romance At The Reading Festival 2006

  • Press Blames 'Emo Culture' For Teenage Suicide

''The inquest was told Hannah had not used drugs or alcohol before her death but Vanessa Everett, her head teacher at Mascalls School, said self-harm had become commonplace among other Emo fans.

Recording a verdict of suicide, Mr Sykes said: "The Emo overtones concerning death and associating it with glamour I find very disturbing."

•The Emo phenomenon began in the U.S. in the 1980s. It is a largely teenage trend and is characterised by depression, self-injury and suicide.

Followers wear tight jeans with studded belts and wristbands. Their hair is dyed black and worn in long fringes to obscure their faces.

Emo - from the word emotional - is a reference to the angst-filled lyrics and melancholy themes of the rock music central to the culture.

One of the foremost of these "suicide cult" bands is My Chemical Romance, from New Jersey.

Their first single, Welcome to the Black Parade, from the album The Black Parade, was released in 2006 and became a huge hit, going to number one in Britain.

The concept album follows the story of a character called The Patient, who dies of cancer.

The Black Parade is a nickname for the place where Emo fans believe they will go when they die. ''

    My thoughts;

    1. RIP Hannah
    2. What a load of rubbish, it is clear that they haven't done any research on the issue. It really p's me off that they use My Chemical Romance's name in this article and that they say they are a 'Suicide Cult Band', when clearly they have helped many people through so much.
    3. ARGH. I'm not buying the Daily Mail again if this is the amount of research they do on their stories.

Cazz, mcr DO save people...I know they do, cause I was suicidal before I started listening to them and their music has taught me so much. I got so angry when I read the story about the suicide in Kerrang >.< It's so pathetic

the daily mail is stupid. mcr are never emo, and never have been. they dont encourage or promote suicide - they stop it! emo started back in like the 70s or something and mcr have denied having anything to do with it. she obviously didnt listened to MCR properly or she would have realised that they want to save your lives. they are not an 'emo deathcult' as the papers have said. x

"Emo" is just a genre of music, so i an way, it is the music's fault. I dont want to blame the music though, because its these annoying little kids' fault for taking the music on to becoming a fashion statement. As much as i hate MCR, their music has anything to do with suicide or being depressed. Infact, their songs, as do most bands now, promote taking revenge onto others. Take, for example, Slipknot. They get slated off by practially everyone because they shout rather than sing, and wear freakish masks onstage. If you actually listen to their lyrics, they promote seeking revenge onto others. Their songs are almost futuristic, and are what the songwriter is imaging the future to be like. Even though Slipknot are classed as metal, their lyrics are very similar to those of MyChem. Music is just the way that musicians and singers express their feelings into the forms of words, and whether the listener wants to bring those emotions onto themselves is their choice entirely!

it is stupid how the news all blamed MCR and the 'Emo Cult' as they called it for makeing this girl commit suicide as i read in kerrang and other rock magazines etc she had had an argument before hanging her self and her parents had blamed MCR and the 'Emo cult' for it as they cant face the facts that they didnt realise she was depresed and caused her to kill her self
