I currrently run the RAF Regiment Presentation team, PGAC and PROAC courses and Cadet experience camps. I have been a member of the Regt for 5 years and have served on QCS and training wing at RAF Honington. If you want to know more just ask?
I am currently in the air force as an aircraft mechanic. I would like to retrade as a Regiment Officer, I have a degree in Sports Development. Is this possible to do? what sort of fitness level etc are they looking for at the PROAC?
Hi i jus come of a cadet experience camp in october wit the air cadets am hoping on joining the regiment i passed my AST's but they dont want me to move on till later on in the year and my weight is only 8 and half stone i went up to birmingham when your display team was down there and they said that i should be fine but the AFCO office arent sure at the moment ? and btw if you were on the october camp i had a great time and it has really 110% put me in to joining the raf regt
It is totally up to you to choose to apply as an officer or a gunner. I entered as an officer having gained 4 A levels and my GCSEs and I haven't looked back since. However, there are a lot of men in the Regt who joined as Guners and have since become Officers. The current RAF Regiment Force Commander (Group Captain) is one who joined as a gunner and got his commission.
Obviously you need to have the educational qualifications to become an officer buty if your keen to join and haven't got them yet you can join as a gunner and earn the qualifications whilst in the Regt on shortc courses.
John is away this week so can't answer these questions, however advice on training would be, run as often as possible. Aim to do a good 3 miles or more, or roughly 30 mins each or every other day. Make sure you do press ups and sit ups each day to build your overall strength and prepare you for the fitness tests and assualt course. Turn up with and maintain a positive attitude and always push to the maximum and more of what you can manage. Hope this helps.
