  • Strength Training Programme (4 weeks)

    This is a programme I am currently following at the minute, although to be honest it constantly changes. It's based on the 'Russian Conjugate' method of periodisation. This form of training has proved very successful for many elite athetes. Basically unlike other methods of periodisation (i.e. linear) this allows you to train multiple components of fitness during a typical week/month. The bulk of exercises aim to improve '3 indicator lifts', the deadlift, the box squat and the bench press. One notable difference is that dynamic effort days have been paired with max effort days. This is largely unknown and was recommended to me by PFT. Try is and see what you think...I feel it worked.

    Typical Week

    SUNDAY Core Training
    MONDAY Football Training (Skill Based Training/Conditioning) or SPP
    TUESDAY Dynamic Effort/Max Effort Upper Body
    WEDNESDAYDynamic Effort/Max Effort Lower Body
    THURSDAY Football Training (Skill Based Training/Conditioning) or SPP
    FRIDAY Muscular Weaknesses/Imbalances Training - Upper Back
    SATURDAY Football Game or Football Training (Skill Based Training/Conditioning) or SPP

    WEEK 1

    Sunday: - Core Training

    A: Stretch off any tight muscles 2 x 30 secs
    B: Roll-Outs (Variations): 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    C: Weighted Sit-Ups (Weighted or Bands/Chains):3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    D: Back Extensions (Weighted or Bands/Chains): 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    E: Hanging Wipers (Variations): 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    F: Tornados: 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    G: Side Bends (Dumbbells or Barbell): 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps

    Monday: - Football Training (Skill Based Training/Conditioning) or SPP

    Tuesday: - Dynamic Effort/Max Effort Upper Body

    A: Stretching
    Stretch off any tight muscles 2 x 30 secs and lengthen medial rotators of shoulders
    B: Dynamic Lift
    Speed Bench Press (With or Without Bands/Chains): 8-10 sets of 2-3 reps (50-60% of Rep Max)
    C: Max Effort Lift
    Bench Press (With or Without Bands/Chains): Build up to 1-5 Rep Max
    D: Supplemental Lift
    Rack Lockouts (Dumbbells or Barbell): 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    E: Bilateral Horizontal Row
    Bent-Over Rows or T-Bar Rows: 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    F: Bilateral Vertical Pushing
    Push Press (Various Bars, Olympic Bar/Fat Bar)): 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps

    Wednesday: - Dynamic Effort/Max Effort Lower Body

    A: Stretching
    Stretch off any tight muscles 2 x 30 secs and lengthen hip flexors
    B: Dynamic Lift
    Box Squats (With or Without Bands/Chains) or Vertical Jumps (Variations): Box Squats – 8-10 sets of 2-3 reps (50-60% of Rep Max) Vertical Jumps – 5 sets of 5 jumps (rest 45-60 secs in between sets)
    C: Max Effort Lift
    Box Squats (With or Without Bands/Chains): Build up to 1-5 Rep Max
    D: Unilateral Movement (Added ROM)
    Bulgarian Split Squats: 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    E: Posterior Chain Movement
    Glute-Ham Raises or Reverse Hypers: 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps

    Thursday: - Football Training (Skill Based Training/Conditioning) or SPP

    Friday: - Muscular Weaknesses/Imbalances Training - Upper Back

    A: Stretch off any tight muscles 2 x 30 secs and lengthen hip flexors, adductors
    B: Bilateral Horizontal Rowing
    Bent-Over Rows (Variations): 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    C: Rear Delt Exercise
    Reverse Flyes (Variations): 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    D: Unilateral Horizontal Rowing
    Single Arm Rows: 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps
    E: Vertical Pulling
    Pull-Ups (Variations): 3-5 sets of 5-12 reps

    Saturday: - Football Game or Football Training (Skill Based Training/Conditioning) or SPP


    WEEK 2

    Sunday: - Core Training

    A: Stretch off any tight muscles 2 x 30 secs
    B: Roll-Outs (Variations)
    C: Weighted Sit-Ups (Bands/Chains)
    D: Back Extensions
    E: Russian Twists (Bands/Chains)
    F: Tornados

    TESTIMONIAL

    I’ve been at Platinum Fitness Training for around 3 months now. During this short time the experience has already proved to be motivating, inspiring and educational.

    I have been involved in the health and fitness industry for many years now. I’ve been largely critical of it during this time as the industry tends to be largely misunderstood and corrupt. At PFT however, this is not the case. They do not conform to commercial gimmicks and base all their training methods/beliefs on ‘reliable’ research and more importantly, real life experience. Due to their training and personal values, I have experienced fantastic results in a relatively short period. I have also seen first hand great results they have achieved with other clients pending towards their goals.

    I initially approached Chris and Andy with the intention of improving my strength and conditioning particularly within football. Since this time however, they have exceeded all expectations. With a bodyweight of 76 kilos, I am now able to deadlift 200 kilos and box squat 190 kilos. Muscular imbalances have been addressed and my conditioning within my sport (football) has improved. These improvements are largely down to Chris and Andy’s guidance and support. They have demonstrated and pinpointed key exercises/technical matters that I do well and need to improve upon. What strikes me as most impressive however is that they justify and explain the reasoning behind every training component they use or recommend. Therefore, I’m completely aware of why I engage in whatever type of exercise/training.

    The knowledge both Chris and Andy demonstrate is fantastic and as a result it has a large effect on how I approach and teach my PE lessons. I have also organised a school trip for 15 of my pupils to experience their facility. Both Chris and Andy will lead the event and the pupils are thoroughly looking forward to it.

    I believe PFT is the future of fitness training. The personal training facility has changed my outlook of training for the better and I’ve loved every moment of it. I have no doubts Chris and Andy will continue to help people reach their fitness goals. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

    Hey! I'm in New York - wooo hooo! Jealous much? Its great, did all the sights today and went to a show on broadway last night. Pretty amazing but fairly expensive! Yeh, mark facebooked me to say he was in Vegas, he arrived the day after we left unfortuantely - would have been good to see them. Vegas is my most favourite place ever!
    I'm back Saturday morning so will give you a ring sat or sunday then come pick my boy up during the week if thats cool? Haha, he does not prefer it with you - bet hes missing me loads!
