      Captain Birdseye Has A Lot To Answer For

      The single life has been described by some as a choice, a personal decision and more desperately as a self expression of ones independence.
      Well that façade, for us people who look like were still going through that awkward stage during puberty, must be met with the harsh reality of freezing the other half loaf of bread each week.
      I was in ASDA doing my shopping and normally I would cook fresh food each day but I was rather tired after work and decided to go for something to cook in the oven.
      Walking down the ready-meal aisle, well it was like a fucking trench-coat parade but with the stench of BO and virginities in the air.
      There was a ready-meal for every kind of occasion of being single with a moustache. Curry, beef, chicken and even organic dishes which I thought was rather adventurous of the food companies considering their consumer base is largely unhygienic to begin with.
      Knowing the smell, touch and look of fresh vegetables is no use when you enter down the chilly aisles of the ready-meal. With more E’s around the place than any decent night in the POD, it’s like fighting off a liquid wall of foreseeable diarreha with a sieve.
      Of course the bright packaging, with all the luring qualities of an Amsterdam window, is simply selling you that - a whore in Gucci. One of them even had a testimonial on the back from ‘one happy eater’ with a picture of her smiling holding a fork. No doubt she was told she was selling forks because if she’d seen the fucking meal.

      Meanwhile, the ready-meal experts are sliding open the boxes to look at what’s inside. No doubt from previous experience after arriving home only to discover that it’s back to the Kitty-Kat for another night. So I decided to do the same.
      Well, it was like coming down on Christmas morning to discover Santa shagging your mother.
      I can only imagine that Captain Birdseye was drowning when he drew up the line between convenience and standards. It appeared to me that the only use for the microwave was to kill off any bacteria from the dripping sweat of old ladies Gin drenched brows as the ‘Chicken & Gravy’ tumbled by on the production line of shite.

      By the time I had stopped dehydrating from disgust, a new set of baskets with half loafs of bread (I thought to myself, they must be running out of freezer space or just learning) began the loitering process of box checking and comparisons of frozen gravy.

      Feeling that if I hang around here long enough I might be forced to make small talk when I’m recognised in the ‘five items or less’ queue, I was trying to build up the courage to choose from seeing Santa shagging my mother or waiting until it gets bright outside to go downstairs when I was told.

      Suddenly and without warning, one of the basket holders engaged in ready-meal chat.
      “I’ve had that one, it’s not very nice.”
      No sooner had the last syllable left his malnourished lips than I was back over weighing the broccoli.

      So the next time someone talks to you about their self expression of independence, just think ready-meal…fucking ready-meal.
