- À propos de moi
- This group is for transgender youth, youth questioning gender ID and their friends, family, partners, allies and support people living in Aotearoa New Zealand (also open to those born in NZ and living overseas and those coming to NZ to live).
Transgender means identifying with a gender identity that is different to the sex you were born with.
This group will be a space for people to hang out and meet each other, talk about stuff especially relevant to trans youth in Aotearoa New Zealand - including networking and advertising events happening around the country that trans youth and their support people might be interested in.

Assume Nothing - Celebrating Gender Diversity
In association with Assume Nothing and in partnership with the Human Rights Commission, MIC Toi Rerehiko is delighted to host a series of workshops celebrating gender diversity.
WORKSHOPS presented by the Human Rights Commission & trans people.
Friday 30 January: 7 – 9pm
TransVocal sharing our stories builds our community - a dialogue session for trans people, their families and friends
Using Rebecca Swan and Kirsty MacDonald’s images as a starting point, trans people will talk about the power of sharing stories and using creativity to express their gender identity, in ways that bring the Transgender Inquiry recommendations to life. Trans poets, filmmakers, artists and performers will be invited to participate.
Saturday 31 January: 1 – 3pm
Young and Trans working positively with trans youth
This workshop is specifically tailored for youth workers, guidance counsellors, health professionals and others working with young people. It focuses on creating schools, youth groups and health services that are positive, inclusive and safe for trans youth. The workshop will be led by guest speakers who work with trans youth and young people who identify as trans.
Saturday 31 January: 3.30 – 5.30pm
Trans 101 an introduction
Trans 101 is for people who want to understand more about the issues faced by transgender and transsexual people. It is a fun session with a panel reflecting the diversity of trans communities. Bring along your questions. What do all the different terms mean? How can I support a trans workmate or family member? Hear about the Human Rights Commission’s Transgender Inquiry, and ways you can support its actions and recommendations.
All sessions are FREE and take place at MIC Toi Rerehiko, Level 1, 321 Karangahape Road. Spaces are limited so please book with Julie Watson on juliew@hrc.co.nz or (09) 306-2651
Anyone who wants to be involved in the 'working with trans youth' workshop -please email me @ genderquest@rainbowyouth.org.nz - cheers -Cam
Also there will be a lunch for trans youth prior to the youth workshop - watch this space for details!!! Let me know if you want to come and any suggestions for food - so we know how much to get, any vegetarians etc.

Tena Koutou questers,
Just stopping by to share sum aroha and introduce myself.
I'm , a 'mature' femme/queen/whakawahine whateva from Opotiki in the eastern bay of plenty.
I recently participated in the HRC Trangender Hui at Tapu Te Ranga Marae in Wellington along with a young whakawahine who also lives in Opotiki.
One of the many issues discussed at the hui was the increasing need for rangatahi to develop their own social & support networks, and being so isolated from everything as we are here in the 'eastern bay' I have been inspired to help my young sista get something set up in our are for Trans & Takatapui youth.
So I'm here to learn what I can about what's happening elswhere around the country and issues which affect my younger bruthas & sistas.
Noho ora
