Mariah Carey shot up the charts in 1990 with her debut album and five-octave range, eventually becoming the best-selling female artist of all time. Then, in 2001, she fell from grace with Glitter and her subsequent emotional breakdown.

Carey's love life was just as volatile. At 19, she met Sony Music mogul Tommy Mottola, who signed her with Columbia Records, making her a star at 21 and his wife at 24. The marriage ended four years later, but Carey continued to record with Columbia until signing a reported $80 million, four-album deal with Virgin Records in 2001.

The pop diva's 2005 album The Emancipation of Mimi became the year's best-selling album and earned her three more Grammys. In 2008, she upped the ante when she surprisingly married actor Nick Cannon and beat Elvis Presley with her eighteenth No. 1 single, "Touch My Body," off her sixth No. 1 album, E=MC2

The biggest selling female artist of all time returns with the most eagerly anticipated album of the year, E=MC2. Mariah Carey's 11th studio album of her career is the follow-up to The Emancipation Of Mimi, her worldwide 10 million selling #1 album. The new album features production from Scott Storch, Swiss Beatz, Jermaine Dupri, and Stargate. E=MC2 is set to be her biggest record yet, out 14th April.

The lead single Touch My Body, written and produced by Mariah Carey, C. 'Tricky' Stewart, and The-Dream, is OUT NOW!

The video, directed by feature filmmaker Brett Ratner, is a hilarious, tongue in cheek take on the record, and is topping TV airplay charts up and down the country.

Mariah will be touching down in the UK this month, where she'll be hosting the Friday Night Project and appearing on the Paul O'Grady Show. What's more, rumour has it of that she'll be playing live dates later on in the year.

    • New Mariah Carey- Migrate, Not As Life Changing As You Thought!

      *‘Migrate’, Mariah Carey’s latest track to leak from her E=MC2, hit the blogosphere with an air of excitement. There has been some speculation that ‘Migrate’ might not be Mariah Carey’s follow-up single to her current No. 1 smash “Touch My Body”.

      I really don’t see what the big deal is. Granted, the track is of crappy quality, DESPITE the MQ (Medium Quality) tagging. But giving ‘Migrate’ a couple of spins, its hard to differentiate ‘Migrate’ from any other booty bopin’ R&Cheese radio single out there.

      Coming from the lady whose career bloomed with amazing songs like ‘Hero’, even to recent classics like ‘We Belong Together’, ‘Migrate’ as well as her current ‘Touch My Body’ are huge disappointments. I already have low expectations from Miss Carey.

      Really, there are two types of Mariah. There is the Mariah who warbled power ballads and insidious dance tunes throughout most of the 90s before going a bit crazy (Britney is so behind the times) and making the biggest comeback this side of Take That. Then there is Mimi Mariah, who insists on having guest rappers on everything and going all a bit hip hop. Which granted, has served her just as well in recent years as her old jeans and sweater on a swing in videos persona, but has left me colder than a witches tit in November. Mariah launched onto the scene back in 1990 with the epic debut single Vision of Love, which perfectly showcased her astounding vocal range and showed that she could (co)write a melodic tune up with the best of them. I fell instantly in love. I spent a fortune on importing her debut album (which i later retitled Visions) and devoured the mix of balladry (Love Takes Time, I Don’t Wanna Cry) and pure pop tunes (All In Your Mind remains an all time fave along with funktastic There’s Got To Be A Way). Her second album barely a year later was more of the same leading off with 70s inspired Emotions, more ballads (Can’t Let Go) and the excellent spiritual follow up to There’s Got To Be A Way, Make It Happen. Once again, this song showed that Mariah could pull off a bit of restraint and rule the dancefloor in a way that was completely more acceptable than say, Celine doing Misled (though i like that song too…). I was all ready for Mariah to release the highlight of her second album, You’re So Cold, (a down and dirty slice of prince-esque pop) but instead she released a cover of I’ll Be There with Trey Lorenz which actually sealed her fate as an international superstar. Her next few albums in retrospect, were a slow and subtle shift to the more hip hop orientated sound she would come to adopt, but kept the pop sensibilities that I loved. Tracks like Hero, Dreamlover, Fantasy and my all time fave Mariah song, Always Be My Baby, competed with Whitney, Janet and Deborah for space on my cd player and often won out. Add into this one of the most enduring Christmas songs in recent memory to be released and I was convinced I would be a Mariah fan for life…

      Then Butterfly came along and my interest started to wane ever so slightly. Honey was the first lead off single of hers that I abandoned in a ridiculously short amount of time, and her duet with Brian McKnight (Whenever You Call) was the only track on the album I kept coming back to on a regular basis. A similar tale happened with Rainbow. It was only the nostalgia of treacly ballad Thank God I’ve Found You that held my interest. What was going on? True, I was going through a big indie college rock phase, but hey I was still spinning Deborah and Kylie, and worshiping at the altar of Steps so it couldn’t be that my pop had fizzled out. Still, I had invested so much time in Mariah and she had provided so much enjoyment for me, that i owed it to her to be a bit more faithful (unlike Janet she hasn’t burned all her bridges with me ). Unfortunately Glitter was a big old mess, but the single Through The Rain was a return to form that I appreciated (even though Charmbracelet was still too hip hop heavy for my liking). Then the whole world liked Mariah again thanks to her emancipation and once again, I was left pondering why one of my favourite acts had experienced such a fall from grace from me…

      ..Until now. Mariah’s latest album is probably my favourite album of hers since Daydream. It’s by no means in the classic Mariah mode of old that I adore, but maybe I am mature enough now to accept that she has moved on and so must I. Or perhaps there is enough hint of it in this body of work that it is completely appealing to my nostalgic side. Lead off single Touch My Body is a tongue in cheek slinky groove that wisely keeps Mariah at the centre of the song and hangs back from Timbaland style over production that can overpower lesser artists.       NEW YORK (AP) — Nick Cannon is cast as Mariah Carey's lover in her new video — but has the superstar diva given the young actor a considerably bigger role in real life?

      According to several published reports, Carey, 38, married Cannon, 27, on Wednesday. Neither Carey's publicist nor Cannon's manager returned requests from The Associated Press for comment.

      If the pair did indeed wed, it would be a whirlwind romance. Word that the two were seeing each other first surfaced in the past few weeks. Last Saturday, Carey was seen sporting a huge diamond ring on her finger at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of her movie, "Tennessee," in which she plays a waitress. Cannon was at her side at the party. Speculation swirled that the couple were engaged.

      Latina.com was first to report that the two got married, at Carey's home in the Bahamas. Friday's New York Post also had the pair wed. People magazine on its Web site Friday quoted a clergyman, Bishop Clifford Petty of the National Church of God in the Caribbean, as saying he presided over the wedding.

      E Online quoted a relative of Cannon's as saying that he called his family and confirmed the news.

      "He called us and told us all about it. We are happy for him. If that is what he wants, then we are happy for him," Linda Cannon, identified simply as a family member, was quoted telling E.

      People reported Friday that Carey had obtained a marriage license on the island of Eleuthera, in the Bahamas, where she has an estate.

      Cannon has put out a rap album but is best known for his role in the movie "Drumline" and a Nickelodeon TV series (yes, Nickelodeon — Cannon is 11 years Carey's junior). He's featured in Carey's upcoming video for "Bye Bye."

      While Carey and Cannon (or is it the Cannons?) were playing coy, the famed jeweler Jacob & Co. was quick to publicize its apparent role in the reputed union with a news release touting the ring Cannon reportedly gave her.

      The release described it as "crafted from platinum and features a square emerald cut fancy light pink diamond as the center stone surrounded by 58 intense pink diamonds and two half moon diamonds on each side.

      "The total carat weight of the ring — center stone is 10 carats — is a jaw-dropping 17 carats with a value of $2.5 million."

      Cannon does have experience with engagement rings. The actor, who has previously romanced singer Christina Milian and voluptuous reality star Kim Kardashian, last year gave a 15-carat stone to Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks as he proposed in grand fashion — on the Jumbotron in New York's Times Square. Cameras were flashing as she said yes. They split just a few months later.

      The Carey-Cannon match is already getting considerably more ink, leaving some to wonder whether it's a publicity stunt: After all, she's just released a No. 1 album ("EMC2" is on the top of the charts), and he has at least four movies due out this year.

      But then again, Carey is one of the most successful artists in music, and hardly needs a marriage to get attention: She's already scored a No. 1 hit off the album with "Touch My Body."

      This would be Cannon's first marriage but Carey's second. She famously wed top music executive Tommy Mottola in an extravagant wedding in 1993. They had a bitter divorce in 1998.
