  • 2nd June, the day they broke KVX...(written by Eimear)

Actually, that name was a misnomer. To truly tell you about Saturday, June 2nd, I must begin with Friday, June 1st.

So it started out like any other summer friday, I got up late and spent too much time on bebo :V eventually i got myself cleaned up and headed out to drama class - again like any other friday. I had to leave drama early however, because myself, Ciara and Daire had to catch the 7pm aircoach up to Dublin (also known as DUBLAKH) for... KVX's gig in radio city on Saturday 2nd June! Woooo! So i got a lift along to the aircoach anyway, we caught the bus, and we were on our merry way.

    Eimear: "so anyway, CIARA-"
Daire: "oh look. this earphone. it's like a mini-hairdryer. MA FRIEND. *whoosh*"

"what did you just say? ..wait, what did i say and then what did you say?"

"their epic sound has not been sterilised by... a dark tunnel"

After a not-so-brief but HILARIOUS stop in Urlingford, we arrived into Dublin at midnight. The lovely Jonny peee and Darragh kaaay gave us a lift out to Leah's granny's bnb, where we met Niamh and Leah and set up camp for the night. We all slept like babies. But not crying newborns. Just knackered ones.

In the morning, we all washed ourselves, did our hair and nails etc giggle giggle, and went down for breakfast. Leah's granny is the best person in the world. "do you want tea? no you don't drink tea, sorry what am i at, i'll give you extra orange juice instead is that alright?" we fed ourselves and psyched ourselves up (yes i did just say psyched ourselves up) for the day that it would be.

We were about to leave to walk to the bus stop (which was at the top of the bnb's park - literally not even a two minute walk) when Leah's granny was all "NO NO you CAN'T walk it's RAINING!! don't be RIDICULOUS!" so she had to give us a lift to the bus stop. what a lovely woman. when we were in the car, Daire got a phonecall.

"oh look, it's jon again, what a surprise. hahaha. Hello? ...yes? ........shit. everything?"

    _____________

When Daire got off the phone, she informed us that the locked, guarded, security coded complex Darragh and Jon has been staying in for the night had been broken into, and every second car had been raided. They had broken a window in Jon's car, and taken our our two guitars, our bass (with the glockenspiel also in the case), all our pedals, our band gear-bag (with all our leads, guitar stand, screwdrivers etc), niamh's snare, jon's snare and even a few of jon's jumpers - though they left behind his ipod, wallet, watch and soundsystem. Jon and Darragh had, the night before, asked the neighbours was it safe to leave valuables locked into the car. The neighbours replied, "We've been living here for six years and there's never once been a break in. Everyone leaves things in their car. It is completely safe."

    _____________

Daire's granny let us out at the busstop, and the bus came almost immediately. On the bus we all called our parents, and Daire made a list of exactly what of our gear was taken. By the time we got off the bus, we were all in shock. I think we were somewhere near city-centre. We walked out to Ringsend and met Darragh and Jon somewhere near the apartment block. The mood is not good everyone comforted eachother for a while, then Jon and Daire set off in the car for radio city, while Darragh and the rest of us gals went off on foot - there was too much glass on the backseat for anyone else to get a lift.

When we got into Radio city, the news spread fast about our gear. It was touching to see how many people wanted to help us pick up the pieces - Squirrel Racer and HomeStarRunner lent us their guitars for the day and leads were found somehow. We were given a soundcheck purely because we were so alien in our surroundings; we didn't even have the comfort of our own instrmuents. After the soundcheck we all wandered around, feeling dazed, until it was our set.

As our shows go, I was quite happy with it. Despite having not even one
