- Pacific Youth Voices is a youth media network supported by the Commonwealth Youth Programme South Pacific. We make sure the voices of Pacific young people are heard by governments, NGOs, youth organisations and media so they can take a more meaningful role in the development and governance in the Pacific.
We highlight Pacific youth issues, Pacific youth perspectives, and positive examples of youth participation; and profile organisations focussed on youth, young leaders and youth projects which challenge the stereotypes.
We are supported by the Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP), which works to empower young people (15 – 29) to contribute to the development of their communities. CYP South Pacific (CYPSP) is one of four regional centres around the world.
We have a hard-working Regional Youth Caucus (RYC) which advoactes for Pacific Youth!
- Countries
- CYPSP works with Tonga, Fiji, Tuvalu, Samoa, Kiribati, Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau and Nauru.
- Happiest When
- young people are living healthy, happy lives and participating fully in their communities!

First ever Pacific Youth Voices youth media workshop
We ran our first ever youth media workshop this week in Honiara, Solomon Islands – it was awesome! We had about 50 young people and about 16 youth workers and media volunteers to deliver the activities.
On the first day we spent time working through community/youth issues that the group was concerned about – unemployment, access to education, HIV and AIDS, drugs and alcohol, children’s rights, child abuse, logging and corruption in government were the big ones.
On day two we had four groups of volunteers from different media – radio, TV/film, writing and drama – who worked with smaller groups to teach them some basic media skills in the area and then help them produce a piece based on an issue they picked.
We had great feedback from the participants, who reckoned it should have been at least two days longer; and the volunteers have definitely helped us work out different and better ways of delivering this kind of workshop.
The work that the young people produced will be showcased on International Youth Day in Honiara.
Now that we’ve had the first one, we’re going to write up all our learning and experience and hand it over to other youth workers/super-fantastic coordinators in the Pacific to run themselves – the idea is you shouldn’t have to know anything about media to coordinate it, just be able to inspire media volunteers to work with you!
If you’re interested in finding out more, just mail us at pacificyouthvoices@gmail.com.
And check out the photos on our Bebo page!!

POVERTY BREEDS CHILD LABOUR AND SEX
POVERTY BREEDS CHILD LABOUR AND SEX
By Shailendra Singh
Beyond the fabulous palm-fringed beaches and cascading waterfalls of the islands of the Pacific is a sordid reality -- child labour and commercial sexual exploitation of children.

So here in the States and probably in our island nations, lots of non-profit org. had combine pacific islanders with asians. recently in the States there are lot of it around, but when it comes to activities hosted by those org. you hardly heard or see PI ...do you people think its a good idea with all these combination? it might work in some ways but totally sucks here in the US...or may be its a US thing...what do you think?
take care and much love
