Me-he-ho
So, after a couple of months of attempting to de-Canadianise Andre, a task that proved to be a little more difficult than first anticipated, I find myself on the other side of the world, no less than 12 time zones away, in Mexico with a very different customer altogether called 'Dave the Rave'.
My time in South-East Asia was superb. Highlights of that part of the trip were most certainly the tubing in Laos, Laos in general actually, the Full Moon Party in Thailand, the night spent camping on Maya Bay where The Beach was filmed where we swam in the early hours of the morning (not just me and Andre I hasten to add) and the plankton glowed around us just like in the film, seeing Andre in drag at a ladyboy cabaret (the culmination of weeks of hard graft, and a small personal triumph) and seeing Andre with a lampshade on his head in a Bangkok bar (MR MUSHOOM, MR MUSHROOM!!).
But a new chapter in my personal gap year experience has begun and, in the week or so I've spent with Dave, there are already signs indicating that this could be meeting of minds not witnessed since Harry and Lloyd took to their road trip in Dumb & Dumber.
We're both very British indeed. So much so that when we finally got to the beautiful Isla Majeires after a few days in the city, we both promptly got struck down with what felt like life-threatening sun stroke. The next two days were spent in the foetal position when a much more constructive use of our time would have been spent racing golf buggies up and down the island.
So, the upshot of our Britishness is that we haven't really seen much of Mexico and will be in a different country altogether tomorrow. It's not all bad though because said country is Belize, where I'm told the locals only speak in Bob Marley lyrics. So I've been swatting up and have a few of Bob's finest lined up and I'm hoping they'll see me through the most testing of situations.
"Please don't you rock my boat." - Only really useful when on a boat.
"Everything's gonna be all right, Everything's gonna be all right, Everything's gonna be all right, Everything's gonna be all right etc etc" - Useful if bus crashes/ Dave gets his backpack nicked again/ we get sun stroke again etc
"No woman no cry" - As above or if Dave lets rip in his sleep on a bus (or boat).
"Get up stand up, stand up for your rice" - If you've had your food delivered to your table but they've forgotten to bring you the extra bowl of rice you ordered.
I'm pretty confident these will stand me in good stead, otherwise I may well end up iron like a lion in Zion. Whatever that means.1 Comment 477 days

Creeping Eruption
No this is not a clever pun or an attempt at a witty subject heading. Creeping Eruption is the name of the tropical disease I've had wiggling around my legs for the last few weeks.
For those of you who read my last blog, it seems I should've listened to the lady in the pharmacy rather than the man at the hospital. I must admit i was concerned that he hadn't taken my case as seriously as i had hoped, but it may be that the reason he assessed my condition from a good ten paces was because he was so shocked by what he saw.
After all, a week later when i decided to get a second opinion at Bangkok airport, the doctor immediately ran off to get his camera. They hadn't had a case there for over five years apparently so this was quite a big day for them.
Anyway, he's kindly emailed me the pics and I've uploaded them for you to enjoy. Perfect material to get you through your lunch break I reckon.
Enjoy your sandwich.

Bloody parasites
I know it's been a while since my last blog and I'm really sorry to leave my loyal reader (Ian) without my insightful prose for so long but I've had so much to do lately I simply haven't had the time.
Now that we've left the 24/7 madness of Thailand and entered the calm and tranquility of Laos, I thought now would be a good time to fill you (Ian) in with what I've been up to since Koh Tao. This was going to include a blow by blow account of my haircut in Koh Phagnan and also my thoughts on the Full Moon party, but frankly my mind's gone blank after popping into a pharmacy a minute a go.
You see Ian (no need for brackets anymore) (shit) I've had what I diagnosed to be itchy mozzy bites on both feet and ankles and they've been bothering me for almost a week now. I've visited several (two) pharmacies about them this week and both times I've been greeted with a reassuring lack of concern and handed some cream and antihistimines.
And then yesterday I noticed the bites had spread in many different directions in long, dark red wiggly worm like patterns. At this point I re-diagnosed the condition to be inflamed blood vessels that I'd itched a bit too much.
But, just to be on the safe side I popped into a pharmacy here on Luang Prabang, only for the lady to tell me to go to hospital because I've got parasites crawling around under my skin. i almost fainted.
The worst thing is that the hospital's not open until the morning and I've now got to attempt to sleep knowing things are living inside my legs. I feel sick.
So my next blog will probably be a gory story, with photos and maybe even a short film, about my feet being amputated.
Wish me luck,
Tom

I think today's video is the best one we've had for a long, long time. The final scene outside the cafe is possibly the best ever! Very very good one, mate.

Andre Tardiff60 weeks agoThe arse is fine. It's my back that took the pain. That jump I did left me in the air upside for almost 3 seconds. A second more I would have landed on my neck, but my shoulders took the impact and with my board above me it came crasing down above my head (so picture me in a ball with my knees neck to my ears... YA my body does not stretch that far, sure as hell not that flexible. The muscle that took the impact was my left side from my hip up to my mid back. It still hurts today. It was hyper extended and bruised but most of it has healed except for the spot where it took the most of it, thats still tender and bothers me when I walk too much.
Chris say it was one of those moments where everyone watching just drops their jaw and says 'ooooooooooooooh sh*****************t'. He said it's an event that'll stay in his mind for life, it was that sweet to watch. Wish I could have seen it... cause it wasn't that sweet to experience haha. Least I can say I walked away
