Music
We are the champions, Chico time, Rocky theme tune, Black or white by michael Jackson (just for james M), the seagulls fly over Bowmore, you'll never walk alone (for the Liverpool fans amongst us....not the celts, i may add) and lights of Lochindaal.
Hobbies
Football, drinking, stumbling around Glasgows underground stations in fancy dress, sunday sessions in duffies, making fun of Robert 'chickenhead' McEachern (Happy??) for being terrible at football, fighting a losing battle in trying to stop Alan 'the beast of Kilhoman' MacMillan (Happy??) putting in career threatening tackles and listening to Graeme 'cheesy' Lees suberb and always funny saturday morning jokes.
Famous moments in history
first time chicos speedos made an appearance, 'Bond' getting multiple red cards and threatening that he would do the ref in, Neil's goal to seal the league championship against bellahoustan, winning the league, easter, september tournaments and the referees shield, Andy Campbells swan dive booking while playing up front in a league game, 'Cheesy' avoiding a punch from an opposing goalie and ending up injured for weeks with a twisted ankle, 'Innys' infamous 6 min appearance and offside shout, Jamesy boys rasping curling drive that knocked out a little girl proud so proud.
Team History
The team is a member of the Glasgow and District Saturday Morning League (GDSML) and has been together since the beginning of the 2002 season. Much like the Manchester United team of the past few years Glasgow Islay has also been going through a some what transitional period. Legends like Frazer 'chico time' Morrison, 'Dangerous' Davie Houstan and Robert 'Gob the pole cat' Maclean have been struggling with long term injuries such as a broken leg, police protective custody and beer gut respectively. Other commitments have robbed the team of stalwarts Alan 'neilston' Airlie, Donnie 'Shrek' Macdonald and not to mention the grusome twosome of 'Dimmy' and 'the budgie', and past first team regulars Steven 'Bond' Alexander, Stephen 'Regi' Reglinski, Donald 'Big D' Darroch and Alex 'footlong' Jamieson have been struggling for fitness this term. Slowly but surely the team is rebuilding, new additions needed!

  • Renfrew Town 0 - 0 Islay afc

Glasgow Islay rocked up to KG5s this saturday on the back of a decent run and hopes were high that this form could be continued against a tough Renfrew side.

Buoyed by the arrival of new strips and team tracksuits the "yellow submarine" began brightly enough with midfield battles the order of the day, as it would be for the majority of the match. Chances were few and far between with the only real scare of note in the first half when Andy "Donny" Donaldson was unlucky to find a stray patch of quicksand as the Walcott like Renfrew striker sped through, only for Andy C to pull off a smart save to keep the score level. Half time 0-0.

The second half brought more chances for the men in yellow as corners and free kicks seemed to be the best form of attack, with a couple of headers cleared off the line at both ends you felt that the draw was written in the stars. Islay nearly nicked it as young Donaldson flew into the air like an elegant swan to deliver an acrobatic, majestic and technically perfect overhead kick that was just diverted away to safety. Full time 0-0.

Good show from the boys, if they keep this form up then sooner rather than later they will be climbing the league to GLORY!!!!!

Islay AFC: Andy C, Gordie Mac, Andy D, Wee Kev, Paddy, Mick, Bond, James Mac, Kian (Inny), Stuart, Iain (Neil Mac).

  • Were back and climbing the league, Kilpatrick 2-3 Islay

So after many weeks of technological darkness for the Glasgow Islay bebo site......its back to bring you all the news on team affairs, match reports and results.

In recent weeks islay have started to pick up valuable points in the GDSML and saturday was no different even though conditions were....shall we say.....a little bit frosty.

After initial pitch inspections and a number of icy power slides on the goal mouth, to the amazement of the Islay afc players the ref found no problems with the hamilton park.

So to the game, and due to the fact that half the islay team were in disbelief for the first 15 minutes we started slowly and were soon behind to a slack goal.

The Kilpatrick Number 9 latched on to a long hopeful ball and lobbed over the dispairing Andy Campbell in the islay goal. This kicked the boys into gear who began to knock the ball around for fun at times before Stuart Clark produced a smart finish to even up the scores, but this was not the final action of the first half as one Steven Alexander rolled back the years to smash the ball from 25 yards into the top corner of the net (with a slight deflection!). Half time 2-1.

Slackness set in as the second half began, as has occurred in a number of games this season much to the annoyance of the management team, and Killpatrick had much of the ball. So it was little surprise that they soon levelled as a break culminated in the striker rounding the Islay keeper and slipping the ball into the corner. 2-2. This again woke up the islay boys who pressed and pressed until the pressure finally paid off. A corner was swung in from the left and after a scramble of headers the ball found its way into the net via a kilpatrick head. Mention must go to james Macdougal who spent all saturday afternoon trying to convince teammates that his missed header was the reason the killie defender panicked and put into his own net.....u decide!.

That was it for the goals but not the action as the kilpatrick Striker took acception to some, erm friendly laughter from midfield enforcer S Alexander, and swiftly proceeded to threaten his safety, his family, his cousins dog, his friendly next door neighbour, the whole of islay, the rest of scotland, europe and all the starving children in Africa.........with a bottle! luckily the ref heard his plans of world domination and destruction and rightly sent him off and in the process the game was closed out for an Islay win. Well done Bond for not reacting to abuse that would have sent a lesser controlled individual ( no names........ok a couple, paddy and Inny!) over the edge.

Final score Kilpatrick thistle 2-3 Glasgow Islay AFC

Islay:- Andy C, Gordy, Andy D, Wee Kev, Cheesy, Mick, Bond, James Mac (Nudd), Stu, Kian, Iain Mac.

  • Forget Liverpool v AC Milan CL Final, theres only one comeback to last the ages!!!!!!

The men in yellow had been licking their wounds over the past two weeks with consecutive cup defeats, but on saturday it was showtime, this was islay's bread and butter, the beginning of the league campaign.

Now I could bore you with an in depth evaluation of the first 75 mins but the real action only really began in the last 15 mins. After Stu had given the Islay an early lead with a thunderbolt from outside the 18 yard box in about 2 minutes islay played well creating a number of chances, but it was the Garnethill players who finished the half strongest and got their just rewards going into half time on equal terms.

    Half time 1-1.

It was a tight affair and looked like it would be settled by the next goal perhaps?....eh not quite......Garnethill raced ahead to a 4-1 lead before Mr Innes latched on to a cross goal pass to make it 4-2. As Islay pushed to get back into the game they were left exposed and the visitors hit a quick fire double to make it 6-2 after 70 mins.

Heads were down, for all spectators it seemed as though this could be the biggest defeat in islays history. But then something strange happened, as Garnethill taunted their counterparts with cries of 'lets get double figures' and 'a couple more in the next 5 mins' it seemed to slap the islay players into life. It was like Rocky, islay had been battered from pillar to post for 14 rounds and lay on the canvas black and blue then from nowhere.......'Aaaaddddrrrriaaaann
n!!!!', up stepped Kian with a looping strike that sneaked under the bar, 6-3. Neilly then got upended in the box with 10 minutes remaining and Mick coolly slotted the penalty down the middle to make it 6-4 and like a hammer blow body shot it took the wind out of the opponents. Islay could sniff blood and like an arrow through the garnethill heart Mick drove past 3 players only to be taken down once again in the box, this time he smashed it high down the middle, leaving the 'keeper helpless, surely they could not find an equaliser with only seconds remaining......could they?

With one last push islay found themselves throwing bodies forward and when a cross bounced off the garnethill defenders into the path of an islay player clear on goal everyone held their breath......who was on the ball........Scott Innes!!!!!!!!! If there was one player you would want to have in that position, with strikers instinct and a killer touch it would NOT be Inny.......... but as time slowed to a stand still while the ball was lying at his feet everybody waited to see the results...............GOAL!!!!!!!!
!!!! He slotted it away beautifully, some would say Kenny Miller-esque.

In one sentence. The biggest show of grit, determination and bouncebackability that will ever be seen at KG5s. Final score Islay afc 6-6 Garnethill.

Islay afc- James Mac, Nudd, Andy D, Bond, Andy Mac (Mick), Stuart C, Bruce(Kian), Inny, Wee Kev, Neil, Matt
