- We're looking forward to welcoming new students to Abertay this September. At the moment, we're putting together our programme for Orientation Week, your first week with us.
This site is a chance to get together with other new students, current students and staff before you arrive - to find out more about the university and your course, and to get to know other people.
Check out http://www.abertaystudents.com for more info about upcoming events, the university and all the societies available here at Abertay.
If any of your friends are coming to Abertay this month, or are currently attending, then get them to add us to their friends list! - Cultural Dundee
- Abertay University is situated in Dundee city centre. For those of you new to Dundee, or even Scotland, then here are a couple of websites that can give you more information.
http://www.angusanddundee.co.uk and http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk
We've also got a Google Map of places worth investigating. Feel free to add your suggestions at:
http://www.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=U... - Foodie Dundee
- Still to come... Any suggestions?
- Sports
- We're working on it. Anything to recommend apart from the obvious?

- This page has been created as part of Abertay University’s Orientation Week 2009 activities, welcoming new and returning students to the start of the new academic year. The page is will be edited by a current student through August and September. It will not be supported actively from October.
We want this page to be a friendly, helpful source of information and we look forward to your contributions. However, everything you submit will need to meet the usual standards of taste and decency – so nothing offensive to other people – and keep within the University’s equality and diversity policy (at www.abertay.ac.uk/About/Equality.cfm)

Ok here's some more stuff
Here is an email that all current students will have got from the Student's Association Vice President...it's all the info on what's happening each night.
Sunday is free to all and is your first chance to meet all your fellow freshers. We have a few games to get you all talking including gladiator jousting, a coconut shy and a buzz wire the length of the bar.
Monday is your chance to get your picture taken with actor Dan O’Connor, who plays Ramsay Street hunk Ned Parker in Neighbours and appeared on 'Celeb Air'. Also local band Buck Rogers will be playing live in the hideout. All this for only £4.
On Tuesday we are under starters orders with a Night at the Races. All the fun of Derby day right here in the Lounge Bar.Come along to karaoke and sing your heart out, there are giveaways for those brave enough to belt out a tune. Acari the comedy hypnotist will be here too, so sit back, relax, you are getting sleepy…For just £5 all this entertainment is yours for the picking.
And if you’re still under Acari’s sleepy spell don’t worry because Wednesday is our pyjama party. With live DJs and pillow fights galore, it is set to be a great night. The Vice-President himself should (postage allowing) be there in his all-in-one rubber ducky footed pyjamas… a sight may be worth the entrance fee all on its own!
Down in the Hideout there is a touch of ‘T in the Park’ with our very own Headphone Disco! With two DJs to choose from come grab your headphones and dance the night away, though watching the silent dancers is entertaining in its own. Entry is £4.
On Thursday get ready to laugh till it hurts. For only £6 you can see Edinburgh Fringe International Comedy Superstar Craig Campbell. Here he is live on stage!
For all of you hustlers out there come and show who’s King (or Queen) of the Cue in our pool competition 'Pool Shark' live in the Sports Bar.
Down in the Hideout for £2 "Stop Bitchin" presents FLEX Club Night; Dundee's finest electro/nu disco/tech/indie night. The Kage Girls will be handing out lollipops and sherbet and we expect to see you all there glammed up ready to go nuts on the dance floor.
On Friday get shaken and stirred at our cocktail night Let’s Get Social with cocktails, pitchers and chilled out tunes.
RTK9000 plus special guests City boys, City girls are in the Hideout with an indie club afterwards.
Saturday sees this years first night of Carbon; Dundee's best alternative club night. If Rock, Indie, Metal, Industrial, Electro, Cheeze & Sleeze, 80's, grunge, punk, electronica and an element of randomness is your thing it’s definitely the place to be and for only £4 you can’t miss it.
Sunday brings to a gentle close to what we hope is an enjoyable week. Sit back and relax in the Sports Bar with big matches from the SPL and English premiership and the conclusion of the Ryder cup.
In the Lounge Bar Stephen King is our host for our open mic acoustic guitar night.
In order to put your mind at rest about all the freshers week events, you can buy a freshers pass, the pass is £20 and is available from the Student centre reception. With the pass you are saving money and if you get in before 9PM, guaranteeing your place at the event
The student website can be found at www.abertaystudents.com and has more information on all of the nights of fresher’s week and the student centre in general.
If you register on the website you can look at all of the events, where and when they are and how much they cost.

Feeling nervous about starting uni and want a gentle introduction to what studying here might be like? Have a look at the Bridging Programme running all next week - http://studentacademicsupport.aberta...
Pick workshops that look the most useful for your personally and just turn up to the uni's main entrance 10 / 15 minutes before the scheduled start to be directed to the venue. No need to register in advance.
Also a good way of finding your way around the place and meeting other people starting their course in a couple of weeks.
The Student Centre's Freshers programme is up on their website now - http://www.abertaystudents.com/ (You can also find them on Facebook.)
