I'm just back from the States, and it was awesome! The first week Sarah and I chilled and partied in Boston and with sarah's man, Jared and all their friends. We went on duck tours, rode our bikes, went to the beach and i was taken on a tour round all the local sights and bars!
We then went to Martha's Vineyard where we camped for a few days on the beach, trying not to get eaten by the tics, chucked off by the rangers or getting sunburnt but def all worth it!
In the 2nd week we set off on our adventure..did an evil 14 hour bus jounrey over night on the greyhound bus (only go on it if you really have to or have no money!) where we got no sleep, cos a "Reverand" (apparently) wouldn't shut up bout how he used to be a boxer and had trained with Mike Tyson and several other names I can't remember, his feet grew from a size 13 to 16 and back again over the period of a year, he was blind but could see beauty...and alot more shite for hours and hours!
Anyway we finally arrived at Niagara Falls where we had the whole day to see it all. Its amazing, so unbelievably huge and cool! After seeing it all and doing all we could we got back onto the greyhound bus for another overnight journey (much the same as the night before!) and arrived In Detroit. Luckily my aunty and uncle live there with my cute cousins, so we went striaght to theirs and slept! They showed us around the city, on a boat ride, up the GM motors and to Greek town (goooooood food!). In the eveing they took us out to see a crazy eighties cover band, and then to a proper 80 year old Detroit jazz bar, which has had all the famous jazz muscians play at. The talent in there was unbelievable, made me feel like giving up being a muscian! The next day we chilled by their friends pool and relaxed in the evening. After catching up on our sleep and gaining several pounds from my aunties awesome food, we got on the bus to Chicago.
We stayed in a really cool youth hostel right in town, although we had a crazy older lady staying in our dorm who tried to latch on to us but we managed to escape (Sarah did the fake phone number trick, always works)! The first morning we did an architecture boat tour which sounds really boring but it really wasn't cos Chicago is stunning! We also went to the art institute, and in the eveing to a blues bar which started off really good and authentic but then it went into an open mic and of few people who thought they could play ended up turning it into a bit of a comedy night! Very amusing tho!
After a couple of nights we then, travelling in style, flew to New York City! we stayed in a cute little youth hostel in the centre of town, and on the first night we dressed up and went out to Times Square, the Hard Rock cafe and then a little Irish bar. The 2nd day after walking all the way the go see the Statue of Liberty, finding out there was a two hour que, we thought fuck that and went back into town, past the former sight of the Twin Towers, through China town and then back to our hostel where we met this really nice Israely girl. The three of us went to Central park, the Lennon Memorial in the Strawberry Fields, Rcokefellar Centre etc. Later on we went out to this amazing proper Irish bar, and then to a cool little rock bar round the corner where we met some crazy people and played some amazing drinking games which I can't wait to teach you all!!
The next morning, sleep deprived and hungover, we went up the Empire state building which was really cool, too tired to do anything else we packed up our bags and slept like homeless people in Central park until it was time to catch our bus back to Boston!
The last week, we sunbathed lots, went to a crazy biker party (and I mean bycicle..which doesn't sound so cool but it was!), went out with Sarah's work and then finally a party at Sarah's flat for her leaving, and then i flew all the way back home, (after almost a month of beautiful sunshine) to rainy Scotland, woo hoo!
