Aright. Well, I'm Craig, a semi-typical 20 year old. I go to Aberdeen University, to study Computer Science, which is generally full of the nerds from The Simpsons. Some of them say a society for computing should be about "setting up linux distros". Nuff said.

Interests? Hobbies? Well, I'm into Formula 1 (Hamilton FAIL!) and play on my PC more than is perhaps healthy. Also enjoy hillwalking and cycling as well (but dont do either of them enough) and like the simple things, like meeting friends, going for walks, and joking about. I am also partial to a game of poker

      Survive 3rd year uni - Turned to shit - K.I.A
      Throw a party in my current flat - may have to settle for another poker night. 1/2 marks!
      Go to another F1 Grand Prix - Cant affort it - K.I.A
      Stop my freefall into further geekness - depends on what you class WW2 history as...
      Start a society - Bit late for this term, but if can join the SA then thats just as good
      Join another society - DONE
      Go hillwalking - DONE
      Get a placement (internship) - Irrelevant, better doing one at the end of uni - K.I.A (but not a bad one)
      Complete Doom 1 episode 4 on ultra violent without cheats - DONE
      Host a poker night - DONE
      Go to at least one football match every 6 months - 1/2 way there
      Achieve 3/4 of whats on this list! :)

    • How bad other computer science students are...

      I have generally stopped adding blogs cos people tended not to read them. However, this one is to prove just how bad others in my uni course are, and what I mean by "nerds from the Simpsons"

      For a "welcome back" lecture, one lecturer said that there used to be a computer science society that done stuff like drinking nights, 10 pin bowling etc (you know, normal society stuff). But no, thats too social and normal for them. This is what their entrant had to say:

      "Computing Science students:: At the meetup today Dr. Masthoff suggested we start a new Computing Science Society. Anyone up for it? We could hook ourselves up a server, run extra programming sessions for people struggling, have a robot contest, design our own Linux distro... plus it would help with our studies. It'd be awesome. If anyone's with me, give me a buzz at .....(the Linux user)"

      (I didnt put their name down cos that would be downright cruel)

      Think it says it all about these lot. Proof I'm not exaggerating.
