Des Willoughby is one of the finest young stars emerging on the music scene in Ireland. Regarded as having one of the most natural tenor voices in the country, Des has just finished recording his debut album “To Where You Are” and the Irish and American release is planned over the coming months.
Des is a native of Coolboy, Co. Wicklow and is a student of the renowned Dr. Veronica Dunne at The Leinster School of Music and The Royal Irish Academy of Music. To date, he has selected a number of events in both Ireland and America to gauge audience reaction to his voice and his repertoire but his focus up to now has been on developing his vocal ability so that he’s equipped technically with all that’s required to sustain a career in the music world.
The highlight of his Irish performances to date is undoubtedly singing Amhran na bhFiann in front of 82,000 people at Croke Park in the build up to All-Ireland Hurling and Football Finals. Des is in demand on the corporate entertainment scene and is a regular performer at high profile celebrity charity events. In the states, Des has a strong association with the New York Police Department Emerald Society and is invited each year to perform at their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. He has recently returned from New Orleans and Florida where he featured as a guest soloist with the renowned Gospel Choir ‘Shades of Praise’.
South East Radio has been given a sneak preview of songs from his new CD and his version of the hit song “You Raise Me Up” reached No.1 in the popularity charts for six weeks in succession. The CD is due for release in May and will be followed by an Irish and US tour. His fresh, relaxed performance style mixed with his vocal ability creates a performance that appeals to audiences of all ages.
Des Willoughby’s time to shine has arrived and those who have had the chance to hear him sing, know that this is a talent that will stand the test of time.0 Comments 620 days
