Aberdeens LGBT Football Club!
Información
We are a group of guys in Aberdeen who want to set up a 'straight friendly, gay football team'. We are looking for more guys out there in the North East who would want to get involved. Whether you want to play competatively or just get some exercise at the training sessions, all ages and abilities are welcome.

There are other gay mens football teams in Scotland and a dozen in England who have their own league. There is even an international gay world cup! 'Baby steps...'
I hear you say, lol.

  • Video to tackle football fiends

A video showing football stars speaking out against homophobia will be released next year as part of a drive to thwart gay abuse in the sport.

The video will be shown in cinemas, on TV and in stadiums in an attempt to rid terraces and pitches of homophobic chants and slurs, the Guardian reported earlier this week.

The Football Association, the players' union, Kick It Out, and Peter Tatchell began work on plans for the video at the end of last month.

It is hoped that David Beckham, Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell, David James, Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole and Cristiano Ronaldo will be persuaded to take part.

The video is due to be released in March and could be shown in schools if the FA wins the backing of the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
"We're delighted that the FA has decided to produce and fund the video, it will have a hugely positive impact on young people and help to challenge bigoted attitudes among fans," said Tatchell.

The FA has put aside a budget of £20,000 and is hoping that a major advertising agency will take on the project at minimal cost.

Gay rights groups have been pressing the FA to tackle homophobia and believe the ad campaign is a breakthrough, prompted by a number of recent high-profile allegations of homophobia.

Hampshire police are still investigating the homophobic and racist chanting directed at Portsmouth's Sol Campbell during a match against Tottenham Hotspur in September.
Danny Lynch, of Kick It Out, said that football - often seen as the one of the last bastions of homophobia - was out of synch with public opinion. "When we were set up 15 years ago, monkey chanting and banana throwing was commonplace, but football has changed and you just don't see that kind of behaviour any more. But in the absence of traditional racist abuse, we have seen this sharp rise in homophobic abuse and dealing with it is now a key part of our remit," said Lynch.

  • Kickabaouts win streetleague cup

Players from London Lesbian Kickabouts are celebrating their recent success after winning the Streetleague Cup Competition at Leyton Score Centre.

The club knew they had the cup in sight when both their teams won their respective groups and ended up playing against each other, in the final of this seven team, five-a-side competition.

The eventual winners, LLKA Red got off to a slow start after a 1-1 draw with Regents Park B, but soon picked up their momentum with a 5-0 win over South London Terriers.

They took their group with a well-fought 2-0 win over perennial Finsbury Park League winners, The Crouch End Tigers, to take them into the finals.

LLKA Blue had looked the favourites to win the competition from the off with a convincing 4-0 win in their first game, leaving Regents Park A team, Streetleague Ladies and Crotch End Tigers behind on points.

A victory over Regents Park B secured their place in the finals, however, their stable mates LLKA Red dug in defensively and hit them on the counter-attack putting the game beyond them in a 3-1 thriller.

As well as providing kickabout football every Tuesday and Sunday, LLKA usually sends three squads to compete in international tournaments each year, enters domestic tournaments and plays friendly matches against other teams.

The club brings together players from many of the London and South East women’s league’s teams under its co-operative umbrella as well as providing a forum for older players, recreational players and beginners to learn from each other and socialise.

As well as organising the annual Lily Parr Exhibition Trophy every February, the forum will hold its 10th anniversary in June 2009 with a football event for lesbian and bisexual women, founded on the principles of social inclusion.

Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone paid tribute to LLKA as “the largest football club for lesbian women in the UK” adding “Sporting organisations like London Lesbian Kickabouts unite communities, break down stereotypes, and open up sporting opportunities for lesbian and bisexual women in London.”

More information can be found about LLKA through lesbianfootball.com.
