  • My Top 20 Favourite Cover Songs

These are listed by personal preference.
I often forget songs when making lists like these
and I like to think I have some more years left in me,
so that I might add and remove to this list.
Let me know what you think, what are some of your favorite cover-songs?

    1. Mad World - Gary Jules (Tears For Fears)

"This song is the most moving piece of music I have listened to. This version in particular, is unmatched, for me."

    2. Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix (The Leaves)

"When I think of Jimi, I think of this song."

    3. Hurt - Johnny Cash (Nine Inch Nails)

"It's rare that a cover surpasses the original. To completely wipe the floor with an original working, is rarer still. Johnny Cash, nearing the end of his long and colourful life, tells it like it is. Sometimes the truth hurts."

    4. Whiskey in the Jar - Metallica (The Dubliners)

"A musical journey through rugged, cutthroat scenery. Well emphasized and poignant."

    5. Two Minds, One Soul - Sonata Arctica (Vanishing Point)

"Sometimes lyrics can mean more to one person than to another. With brilliant musicians and unwavering vocal accompaniment, some things can not be further stressed."

    6. All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix (Bob Dylan)

    "Powerful, skillful and notable."

    7. Don't You (Forget About Me) - Billy Idol (Simple Minds)

"Don't you forget about Billy. He may have turned a blind eye to this song first-time 'round, but only fools rush in."

    8. Die With Your Boots On - Sonata Arctica (Iron Maiden)

"If you're going to die, die with your boots on. An' power-metal pumping through your veins."

    9. Rasputin - Turisas (Boney M.)

"Unlike anything Turisas has done; Unlike anything Boney M have done."

    10. We Can Work It Out - Stevie Wonder (Beatles)

"Completely individual in sound and style, this cover is Stevie's own vision of peace."

    11. Burning Down the House - Tom Jones and The Cardigans (Talking Heads)

"Can you feel the power? I think David Byrne likes this version, also."

    12. Sweet Dreams - Marilyn Manson (Eurythmics)

"Sweet dreams never sounded so dark. Who am I to disagree?"

    13. Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - The Animals (Nina Simone)

"The Animals have a way with making a song their own. Every time I play this track I think of how no one could do it better."

    14. Red Red Wine - UB40 (Neil Diamond)

"You don't need to drink to appreciate this song."

    15. Turn, Turn, Turn - The Byrds (Pete Seeger)

    "To everything, turn."

    16. Shout 2000 - Disturbed (Tears For Fears)

"I wouldn't say this cover is better than the original, it's different. It's unique, and great loud."

    17. For Once in My Life - Stevie Wonder (Jean DuShon)

    "Stevie knows."

    18. American Woman - Lenny Kravitz (The Guess Who)

"I pump this jam for the memory's... and the Lenny."

    19. Knockin' On Heavens Door - Guns N' Roses (Bob Dylan)

"Different to the original, even though very similar. It's a Guns song I wouldn't mind playing often."

    20. Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino (Gene Autry)

"Some songs hold a special place in one's heart." =)

  • Things

    Everything dies alone.

When that final curtain is pulled, it's you in the spotlight.
Forget the lady holding your hand.. the doctor standing over you.
No one else can die for you.
    In truth, everything dies alone.

    Your actions determine your character.
However, only in reflection of your actions will you see what you have become.
Similarly, reading from someone-else's script makes you an actor.

The past is prefixed by 'the' because the past has stature.
If the past did not have stature, the present would be 'a present'.
Thankfully, that is not the case. The present is not a gift.
    The present is 'the' gift.
The future, relative to the past, is perceived to be distant.
However, distance can only be referenced by time.
Even a simple ruler, is subject to intervals of time.
2 cm is greater than 1 cm - but only if something had to be moved.
    Put it this way...
If you could not move, you could not make sense of depths.
Is it not also true that from a stationary position, the only measurement of distance you have is a reference in your head?
A reference created by the time expended through movements which, without time, could not take place at all.
The future is also relative to the present.
The present does meet the future, at which point both do not exist.
Thus, you have 'deja-vu'. A memory of the past is played out in what you can only perceive to be the present.
However, this memory, this deja-vu is not actually an event that has happened in the past.
Your mind, not your brain, has created a series of circumstances
which prevent you from having massive brain trauma, due to your sudden and vivid realization of time.

You live in a constant state of deja-vu.
Have you ever noticed that when conversing with people, and you can try this right now -
you hear what they are saying before they say it in words.
Not through their mind, but through your mind - you can actually know what someone is saying before they say it.
For this there are no explanations, just answers.
The right questions needs to be produced.
    What are we?

  • One day at a time; lost and found

Endless stairwell edges on into the infinite
A perplexed concept crushes the imagination
Forewinds blow patients of sanity back
    Inconceivable springs of thought forgotten

Ashes of consequence blow black shadows
Soothe and groove satisfying woe and pain
Affirmate sound into bars of barren music
Content only in forcefully disowning context

I picture you running towards a destination
    Tripping and stumbling passively
Happily ignorant to those surrounding you
Ablaze your gaze with fiery intent

    Now, how about that dance?

Christmas in Paris by myself? I'm not completely sure about that.

I didnt realise that England makes a much bigger deal about christmas than what I'm use to. I have been invited to christmas dinners already.. but I'm not sure where I want to be just yet.

Oh and my return flight is almost confirmed!
I'll have a week in Hong Kong with my uncle, and then be in Sydney for a bit. And by the latest I be back by Jan 20th. I know thats a lot later than I had anticipated, but there still so much to do. =)

Bummer I just missed you on the internet. I got your txts, but Gita was using the computer for important Uni stuff, so I couldnt shove her off.

So you saw what I'd be wearing next weekend. I thought I'd just let you find it. What do u think?

thing is, i'll have to be super social again when school starts, with more people moving into this house, teachers, and endless amounts of children.

i'm sopose to go somewhere tomorrow, but they live so far away D: would it be too impolite to cancel? gah.

So now I'm no longer an applicant, but an official engineering student! :D even though i dont have ID, and dont even pass as a student in this country to get student discounts, but I still am 1!

I'll have 2 second year engineering friends that can help me out, so that will be great! And its going to be so hard! :O But I'll try hard :)
