- Ja, o mnie i jeszcze raz ja
- Raising and Giving is GCUSA's charity group, where student voulunteers get together to raise money for a variety of different charities by organising events and taking part in street collections. RAG is amazing not just because all the money raised helps people in need and deserving causes, but because it gives you the opportunity to develop your personal and proffessional skills, all the valuable skills that future employeers seek! If you need to build confidence then RAG is great because you get to communicate with new people all of whom are in the same boat as you! You can build on your organisation and negotiation skills when helping to plan events and add to your all important CV! Whilst benefiting from experience that you just couldn't get anywhere else!
- WHY JOIN?
- If your looking for a way to spend your free time, if you want to meet new people, if you want to be part of a team, if you want to travel across the country, if you want to do volunteer/charity work, if your CV is a bit empty, if you enjoy making new friends, if you want to get involved in a uni club/society, if you want to improve your social life, the list goes on! The great thing is you can get a reference for a future job (how impressed will an emoplyeer be, knowing that you are a genuinly nice person willing to donate your time to helping others! You can join the students leaders programme, only open to students involved in a sports club or society, by joining RAG you get FREE training and skills that you can then use to get invloved in the SLP, which means you get a certificate to say you are a qualified student leader. That's another thing to add to your CV! The social aspects great too as we get to go on nights out to raise money!
- WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?
- Don't worry there's no pressure, you can donate as much or as little time as you have, you can choose to join RAG as a committee member or as a general volunteer helping out at events whenever you can. In whatever way you choose to get involved, you are helping to make RAG a success! All we ask is that you give just a little of your spare time, you'll never be bored we try to make everything we do as much fun as possible! If your not good at something, then don't worry you won't have to do it, you can identify your strengths and weaknesses and improve them! Imagine how good it will look on your CV to say that you gave up your time for charity. It shows so much initiative and will allow your CV to stand out from the rest, becasue as we all know just having a degree isn't always enough in the competitive job market!
- WEEKLY MEETINGS
- We meet at 5pm on Monday's on the second floor of the students association building (North Hanover) but we're flexiable and if this doesn't suit you we can meet at a time that's better for everyone. The meetings are really informal and we just chat about what we're going to do next and it gives all of us the chance to suggest ideas for the future.
- GET IN TOUCH
- We would love to hear from you, if you have any questions, just bebo us or contact Kate McKie (Student Development and Training Co-ordinator) @ kate.mckie@gcal.ac.uk or 0141 273 1607. Or why not pop along to one of our meetings, we welcome all suggestions and if you have a good idea about a fun way we can raise money and get lots of students doing daft things then let us know! Maybe you know of a charity that doesn't get much regognition, we can help, every single penny we make goes to a worthwhile cause, whether its a local, national or international charirty.
- UP AND COMING EVENTS
- Why not bebo us some ideas for next year!
- RAG O METER
- Last year we have raised £1114 for charities including Children in Need, Cancer Research, UK Breast Cancer Campaign and Scottish Sports Futures, help us beat that next year!
- HOW WE RAISE MONEY
- We are always looking for fun, interesting and down right daft ways to raise money, something that will get as many people donating money as possible! For Children in Need we had a bake sale, collection tins around uni, we made the student president get his head shaved in front of everyone at The Venue, we had a hypnotist and we tried to break the world record for the largest game of musical statues, involving over 200 students in The Ark! Let us know if you have any crazy ideas as to how we can raise money!
