Wicca or Witchcraft is most popular for the famous Salem witch trials, but it goes back much further than that to the druids. Druidry is a spiritual path that honours the ancestors and the spirits of nature and celebrates individuality and creativity. They basically called on the gods and lived by the sun.moon and the tide of the sea. Over time Druidry evolved into many forms Paganism one which later became Wicca.
Wicca is not all about orgys and tree-huggers. So let's just clear up some myths.,,,
Naked orgys - Some wiccans do prefer to be skyclad asit brings them closer to nature.
Only one example of Orgys would be on Beltane (the wiccan holiday of fertility and love) But even then couples would hold private circles.
Black Cats - Not every wiccan / witch has a black cat (I am one of them) this is just purely because superstition links them to magick.
Spells - Yes spells and riuals are part of wicca, but not the biggest part. And nothing like in Charmed or Harry Potter. Wiccans believe in free will and cannot do anything to affect this. They are really more like prayers.
Animal Sacrifices - Nope I myslef am vegearian and would never harm an animal. The point that we are nature lovers should prove that..
Broomsticks - No we do not ride around at night on them, the only thing we use them for is to clean/sweep our circles.
Devil Worship - There is no bing of supreme evil in Wicca. We don't need to be scared into doing the right thing. We do it because it feels nice, ands it woud be against the threefold law and the Wiccan rede (Harm None) not to.

The craft has it's roots in a time when people lived in small communities. The village 'witch' was the nurse, doctor,mid-wife, vet, and councellor for the community. Witches were the ones with the knowledge of healing and prepared medicines of their time.
