Yesterday, John Smeaton's cup run ended in an unlucky 5 goal thriller. The game started with Wetherby enjoying early posession, Smeaton seemed to be just finding their feet, but after 10minutes found themselves 1-0 down. As the half continued Smeaton started to work the ball a lot better, Chimp on the right hand side worked well with Ste Johnson, producing 2 good chances from the wings. 5 minutes before half team, Smeaton looked very much the stronger of the two teams and were finally rewarded for their posession. Joe Phillips chased a lost cause and nicked the ball of the goalkeeper twice, before rounding one defender and slotting the ball through the legs of the defender on the line. 1-1. A quick goal followed, when Joe Phillips swivelled on Ste Johnson's pass and volleyed home, wrong footing the Wetherby goalkeeper, and putting Smeaton in the lead.
The second half begun with Ross Phillips replacing Melvin Nelson, who had shown glimpses of brilliance on the left hand side, linking up well with Phillips and Bradley Stott. Disaster struck, when a neat finish from the Wetherby No.9 equalised. It wasn't long before they followed up on the equaliser with a long ball that found the No.9 and he cooly slotted past impressive goalkeeper Gary Atkinson. The score didn't reflect the game, as Smeaton were running riot. They had countless chances, with Joe Phillips smashing a free kick straight into the wall, and neatly cutting inside to send his shot wide of the near post. Dicko the giant centre back headed wide from close range, and Lewis Cowell's towering presence wasn't enough to breach the Wetherby defense. Wetherby just about held on and continued their cup run.

On the back of a pretty convincing win over Temple Moor, John Smeaton 6th Form are set to welcome Wetherby 6th Form on Wednesday 28th January 2009.

Hopefully, a performance that won the game on the 19th December 2008 can carry on. Captain Leavo hasn't yet named his team.

John Smeaton ran riot on David Young Academy and Brunkswick 6th Form yesterday, with several defining wins. The Smeaton squad was split into two seperate squads of 7 players, and between them lost only 1 game winning the remaining 2.

Squad A - Lewis, Tom, Gary, Bradley, Bobby, Dicko, Callum.
Squad B - Lacy, Leavo, Chimp, Chucky, Joe S, Kyle, Pel.

In the first game played, Squad A beat David Young's academy 18-8, with tries from Lewis and Tom. Brad converted the kicks for extra points.
Squad B, beat David Young's Academy also, but failed to beat Brunswick, tries from Joe S made this possible.
