  • Youtube errors

    Hey guys,

    Sorry I haven't done much work with the app recently, many other things going on in my life.
    Some of you may have noticed there have been problems adding youtube URLs the past couple of days, there was a problem with the server disk array, so the app was moved to a different server that wasn't able to see youtube.com, the server managers have fixed it and all should be happy again.

    I've had a quick read through the comments and here's a couple of points for those of you having problems.

    "Valid absolute URLs" - addresses that you put in the box should start with http:/ / and needs to be a link to the actual flash object, not just a page that has the flash object on it. The application will send a request for the address you give, and will make sure it works, (for those of you who understand, if the application gets anything other than Content-type: application/x-shockwave-flash in the HTTP response headers, or can't contact the server, then you'll be told its not a valid URL.) If you are SURE that the address is right and the application still rejects it, send me the URL and I'll look into why.

    If you find yourself unable to change the flash URL, first make sure you have a good URL (see above), the app has a hard-reset available here: http://apps.bebo.com/flashbox/unbrea... (There's no confirmation page, and you'll probably see a blank page if it works)

    I don't check my app pages very often, and there doesn't appear to be any method for me to subscribe to any updates to the comments/reviews etc, if you want to talk to me about the app or are having problems, feel free to drop me a mail. (Proper english appreciated)

  • Bug fix, April 8th/9th ish, sometime or other

    at some point along the line bebo has started making assumptions about the size of the text box to type in, it's really my fault to be honest because i should have specified a limit of 255 characters instead of no limit, which bebo ignored and put a 50 character cap on instead.

    Anyway - complaint over, all URLs for valid flash movies should now fit in the box, since if its longer than 255 characters something's not right anyway.

  • Embedding videos

    (Note - all links in this guide have been padded out with spaces so that bebo won't recognise them as links and hide the interesting parts of the URL)

    How to embed:

    Youtube videos
    Youtube video pages are URLs like http:/ / w w w .youtube.com/ watch?v=4U9dlLlLO7A. This however can not be embedded into flashbox as it is a web page, not a swf file, if you want to embed youtube videos what you need to do is this:

    Take your youtube page URL e.g.
    http:/ / w w w .youtube.com/ watch?v=4U9dlLlLO7A
    http:/ / w w w .youtube.com/ watch?v=ESCA7PvWGYY&feature=relate
     d

    The important bit is the part between v= and either the end, or a & symbol. Delete everything else and the above links become
    4U9dlLlLO7A
    ESCA7PvWGYY

    Now in front of the code you get, put http:/ / w w w. youtube.com/ swf/l.swf?video_id=
    so the 2 URLs from above become:
    http:/ / w w w. youtube.com/ swf/l.swf?video_id=4U9dlLlLO7A
    http:/ / w w w. youtube.com/ swf/l.swf?video_id=ESCA7PvWGYY

    This sort of link can be entered into flashbox.

    you wait for the game to load 100% before you copy and paste. Trust me, I used all my broadband so my internet's slow and I had to wait for the game to load but it worked!!!!!!!

    I keep getting this error message:

    SNML validation error: sn:swf: 'www.fatboylan.co.uk/files/badger.swf ' must be a valid absolute URL

    It won't let me change it, even if I delete the application and then rejoin! Any suggestions?
