Ashes to Ashes is a British television drama series, which serves as a sequel to the 2006 series Life on Mars. It is a Kudos Film & Television production for BBC, currently being broadcast on BBC One. It premiered on 7 February 2008 at 9:00 PM GMT.
Ashes to Ashes features DCI Gene Hunt (played by Philip Glenister) as its main character. He is joined by a female detective from the 21st century, DI Alex Drake, who is stranded in 1981 after being shot in 2008. She is played by Keeley Hawes. Also reappearing are Chris Skelton (played by Marshall Lancaster) who emerges as a "technical wizard" and Ray Carling (played by Dean Andrews). All have transferred to the Metropolitan Police in London and Chris and Ray remain loyal to Gene. New recruit, WPC Sharon 'Shaz' Granger, (Montserrat Lombard) replaces WDC Annie Cartwright.

Sorry us mods haven't been doing much with the site, but we've been up to our ears in exams at the moment, but when they're all done and dusted, we'll be happy to include your suggestions to this page. We have picked up on a few good ideas, for example, we will make a list of Gene Hunt's greatest quotes. If you have anything you would like to see, personal message me or any other mod and we will try our hardest to make it happen. It may have to wait a week or two though, because as I said earlier, we are a bit busy at the moment. Oh and by the way, thanks for the epic picture Bugsy M. Bye for now, Lawrence.

In December 2006, it was reported that the BBC had commissioned a Life on Mars spin-off series, to be titled Ashes to Ashes after another David Bowie song of the same name. The Times reported that this spin-off would pick up the lives of Gene Hunt and other characters from the series in 1981. Julie Gardner confirmed that the spin-off was to be produced during an interview for BBC Radio Wales in March 2007. The series was confirmed by the BBC on the day of the finale's airing. Ashes to Ashes will see Philip Glenister return as DCI Gene Hunt, but this time in London in 1981. He will be joined by female detective DCI Alex Drake from the 21st Century, a new character. She will be a modern woman who has risen through the ranks of the Metropolitan Police by using psychological profiling to capture suspects, producers said. But when she and her daughter are kidnapped, she is injured in a rescue attempt, and finds herself in 1981.
Jane Featherstone, executive producer for TV production company Kudos, said the search was on for DCI Hunt's new "sexy sidekick". "It's a touch of Moonlighting teamed with a measure of Miami Vice," she said. Filming is due to begin in the summer of 2007, and the show will be broadcast on BBC One in 2008.
