Taking her hand in his, he led her to the beginning. Not of sky and land, but of clear waters and the edges of land. The moon took control of the ocean, summoning it closer and pushing it away like a puppet on strings. All the while the sun was dissolving behind mountains and it threw a sheet of red and gold over every crevice the shadows couldn’t reach.
They found their horizon amongst frozen trees, hiding in shame for eternity. Denials a Burdon from a thousand lies of malicious enemies. Afraid it will never find a sanctuary it drowns itself in sorrow amongst the shock of the wake.
So here they are safe from disapproval of man, disappointment of a world that can’t make it past the walls of decaying life to the satisfaction they found by water. Temporarily cut off from prejudice, injustice, and discrimination of a stereotypical way of being.

He never found her, nor did she find he. An empty life of addiction and no surrender left her broken in shadows of hate. A place full of distorted memories and shattered dreams was all that he could see.
Their eyes met and a new world was born. Thoughts of an alternate reality their own were drifting between one another, not yet close enough for either to grasp or hold onto. So they waited, unafraid of looks from strangers disagreeing with their place outside the norm.

‘Please?’ She couldn’t understand why he had so much hope in his voice, in his eyes. She thought nothing of herself, yet somehow he thought she was everything.

They didn’t know where they were going. All she knew was that she had to follow him. She was compelled by him. She was the puppet on strings. Close enough to touch; to her he was so far away.
At the end of the sleeves from his black jacket, she saw his pale hands hanging beside him. So frail, so alone. The empty pockets of his jeans made him seem thinner than she had thought. She couldn’t leave him.
He turned to her, smiling. He adored her face. So small, so youthful. She wasn’t skinny, wasn’t chubby. He knew if he were to hug her he wouldn’t be able to let go. She smiled back at him with her green eyes as wide as the moon itself. He turned, smiled to himself and walked on, completely mesmerized by her being.
To her there was nothing warmer, softer, better than his smile. To him there was nothing calmer, safer, and happier than her eyes. In the trees, with dim light shattered by shadows, they found perfection.
‘I want you.’ She said suddenly. Her voice filled him with a sensation unlike any other. It swallowed him, confronted him, lifted him, yet he did not answer. He walked on slowly. She didn’t break the silence again.

As they came to an opening, and he stopped behind the last tree, she came beside him. Water and the warmth of his hand with hers greeted them. Speechless, motionless, satisfaction held them together.
Motionless water gleamed in the sunlight before them. Not a shadow lay to rest on its surface. Peace found a new meaning here. It was more than a sanctuary, more than a home. It was safety itself.
They walked together until they stood where the edges of land met the ocean. They stood at their horizon. She walked into the water and squeezed his hand as the icy surface touched her toes. Her hand formed a fist. She was no longer holding his. Instead of his warmth there was nothing, only her hand grasping air.
‘Your not real?’ She said, turning to him still by her side. He shook his head, gazed into her eyes and watched her as she fell into her horizon.
