    • PMT isn't really real... Is it??

      I can't remember where I came across this, but there's a feminist who claims PMT doesn't really exist. In the same why that the hysteria experienced by Victorian women didn't have a physiological cause but was a way of expressing the oppression they faced, she argues that PMT allows women today to vent their frustrations in a socially sanctioned manner. "It's ok, it's just her time of the month."

      I think there is a biological factor involved but I also agree with her. Once a month I can think "it's okay that I'm angry, it's just hormonal" and release this anger that I spend the rest of the month repressing because I feel it's pointless to be angry, it achieves nothing. PMT is a safety valve.

      *narrows eyes*

      Why is it that whenever I take an academic interest in studying something it's NEVER something that you can discuss in 'polite society'?!?! Complete conversation killers all of them! Well, okay, my dissertation wasn't too bad (domestic violence and women with no recourse to public funds) but everything since then.... Gah! My interests run the gauntlet from trans survivors of childhood sexual abuse right through to the lesbian dildo debates (sleeping with the enemy or an assertion of women's sexual sufficiency?). Why could I not have a burning interest in what the fungus growing from our bathroom floor is?!! Role on the start of uni, I wanna learn how to research these things!!!

      I just heard that I re-got funding, woo!! The lovely people at the graduate school wrote to SAAS appealing for me so after saying they'll support me, then they wouldn't support me, SAAS are back to supporting me during my post-grad! This makes Lex happy, Lex is going to go and buy things now because she can without any worries at all!!!
