The term sede vacante, Latin meaning "the chair being vacant," is used to refer to the interregnum between the death of one pope and the election of his successor (1). Today, however, it has come to mean that the See of Rome has been vacant since the death of Pius XII, or at least since Paul VI approved the Second Vatican Council in 1965.
Some maintain that John XXIII incurred the wrath of God for calling the Council. Others take the view that Paul VI left Mother Church when he implemented the Novus Ordo Missae. Some say that John Paul II was invalidly elected. Others assert that he left the Church sometime into his pontificate. So by whatever road, the See of Rome is vacant, they say.
To remedy this state of affairs, some would have the cardinals elect a new pope. Others, claiming that all the cardinals are either invalidly appointed by a heretical pope, or that they have all likewise fallen into heresy, would have an ecumenical council of newly-consecrated traditionalist bishops meet to elect a new successor to St. Peter.
I delayed entering this controversy, considering others more qualified to argue the case than myself. Nevertheless, God seemed to have disposed things so that I did write on this matter by early 1985. Unfortunately, this problem has not abated in the last 13 years, rather the reverse. I here present my revised paper for consideration, making the usual protestation of Catholic authors: If I should in anything be found in error, I submit all I say here to the future judgement of the Holy Roman Church.
I. THE DOCTRINES INVOLVED
This argument involves several of the doctrines that the Church places before us to believe. I shall take them up, one by one.
A. Indefectibility
The Church "was to last to the end of the world, teaching, governing, and sanctifying men."(2) Our Lord said, "...behold I am with you all days even to the consummation of the world." This the Church has always understood to mean that she would continue, as she was founded, to the end.
Now, the Church has always taught, and I maintain, that in order to teach till the end of time, the Church must have an infallible teacher at all times: the pope. In order to govern, she must have her one shepherd. In order to sanctify lawfully, all bishops and priests must maintain communion with Rome.
Concerning this attribute of the Church of Christ, the Fathers taught thus:
For this cause did the Lord take the ointment on His head, that He might breathe incorruption upon the Church. (3)
Origen:
"Thou art Peter," and the rest, down to "and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." What does "it" refer to? The rock upon which Christ built His Church, or the Church? For the phrase is ambiguous. Or is it that they are, as it were, one and the same thing, "the rock and the Church?" This, I think, is the real fact, for neither against "the rock upon which Christ built His Church" nor against "the Church" shall the gates of hell prevail..." (4)
St. Cyprian:
The Church is one, which having obtained the grace of eternal life, both lives forever, and gives life to the people of God. (5)
St. Alexander:
We also confess one, and one only Catholic, the Apostolic Church, which is always incapable of being overthrown, even though the whole world choose to war with it...(6)
Eusebius:
The Savior prophesied...that the Church...should be invincible, incapable of overthrow, and never overcome by death...firmly established and embedded on a "rock" that could not be moved nor broken!(7)
St. Ephrem, Syrian:
Thou hast also built a Church on earth...that, in fine, its treasures, filled with every kind of wealth, fail not, and be not exhausted. Fulfill, O Lord, what Thou didnt promise to Peter, the Prince of the Apostles.(
St. Ambrose:
The Church is buffeted, but is not overwhelmed by the waves of worldly care; she is stricken, but is not weakened...(9)
St. John Chrysostom:

In this document the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is responding to a number of questions concerning the overall vision of the Church which emerged from the dogmatic and ecumenical teachings of the Second Vatican Council. This Council ‘of the Church on the Church’ signalled, according to Paul VI, “a new era for the Church” in which “the true face of the Bride of Christ has been more fully examined and unveiled.”[1] Frequent reference is made to the principle documents of Popes Paul VI and John Paul II and to the interventions of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, all of which were inspired by an ever deepening understanding of the Church herself, and many of which were aimed at clarifying the notable outpouring of post-conciliar theology — not all of which was immune from imprecision and error.
This present document is similarly inspired. Precisely because some contemporary theological research has been erroneous, or ambiguous, the Congregation’s intention is to clarify the authentic meaning of certain ecclesiological statements of the Magisterium. For this reason the Congregation has chosen to use the literary genre of Responsa ad quaestiones, which of its nature does not attempt to advance arguments to prove a particular doctrine but rather, by limiting itself to the previous teachings of the Magisterium, sets out only to give a sure and certain response to specific questions.
The first question asks if the Second Vatican Council changed the previously held doctrine on the Church.
The question concerns the significance of what Paul VI described in the above mentioned quotation as ‘the new face’ of the Church offered by Vatican II.
The response, based on the teaching of John XXIII and Paul VI, is very clear: the Second Vatican Council did not intend to change — and therefore has not changed — the previously held doctrine on the Church. It merely deepened this doctrine and articulated it in a more organic way. This is, in fact, what Paul VI said in his discourse promulgating the Dogmatic Constitution Lumen gentium when he affirmed that the document had not changed traditional doctrine on the Church, but rather “that which was assumed, is now explicit; that which was uncertain, is now clarified; that which was meditated upon, discussed and sometimes argued over, is now put together in one clear formulation.”[2]
There is also a continuity between the doctrine taught by the Council and that of subsequent interventions of the Magisterium which have taken up and deepened this same doctrine, which itself constitutes a development. In this sense, for instance, the Declaration of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith Dominus Iesus merely reaffirmed the conciliar and post-conciliar teachings without adding or taking away anything.
In the post-conciliar period, however, and notwithstanding these clear affirmations, the doctrine of Vatican II has been, and continues to be, the object of erroneous interpretations at variance with traditional Catholic doctrine on the nature of the Church: either seeing in it a ‘Copernican revolution’ or else emphasising some aspects almost to the exclusion of others. In reality the profound intention of the Second Vatican Council was clearly to insert the discourse on the Church within and subordinate to the discourse on God, therefore proposing an ecclesiology which is truly theo-logical. The reception of the teaching of the Council has, however, often obscured this point, relativising it in favour of individual ecclesiological affirmations, and often emphasising specific words or phrases which encourage a partial and unbalanced understanding of this same conciliar doctrine.

Introduction
The Second Vatican Council, with its Dogmatic Constitution Lumen gentium, and its Decrees on Ecumenism (Unitatis redintegratio) and the Oriental Churches (Orientalium Ecclesiarum), has contributed in a decisive way to the renewal of Catholic ecclesiolgy. The Supreme Pontiffs have also contributed to this renewal by offering their own insights and orientations for praxis: Paul VI in his Encyclical Letter Ecclesiam suam (1964) and John Paul II in his Encyclical Letter Ut unum sint (1995).
The consequent duty of theologians to expound with greater clarity the diverse aspects of ecclesiology has resulted in a flowering of writing in this field. In fact it has become evident that this theme is a most fruitful one which, however, has also at times required clarification by way of precise definition and correction, for instance in the declaration Mysterium Ecclesiae (1973), the Letter addressed to the Bishops of the Catholic Church Communionis notio (1992), and the declaration Dominus Iesus (2000), all published by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
The vastness of the subject matter and the novelty of many of the themes involved continue to provoke theological reflection. Among the many new contributions to the field, some are not immune from erroneous interpretation which in turn give rise to confusion and doubt. A number of these interpretations have been referred to the attention of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Given the universality of Catholic doctrine on the Church, the Congregation wishes to respond to these questions by clarifying the authentic meaning of some ecclesiological expressions used by the magisterium which are open to misunderstanding in the theological debate.
RESPONSES TO THE QUESTIONS
First Question: Did the Second Vatican Council change the Catholic doctrine on the Church?
Response: The Second Vatican Council neither changed nor intended to change this doctrine, rather it developed, deepened and more fully explained it.
This was exactly what John XXIII said at the beginning of the Council1. Paul VI affirmed it2 and commented in the act of promulgating the Constitution Lumen gentium: "There is no better comment to make than to say that this promulgation really changes nothing of the traditional doctrine. What Christ willed, we also will. What was, still is. What the Church has taught down through the centuries, we also teach. In simple terms that which was assumed, is now explicit; that which was uncertain, is now clarified; that which was meditated upon, discussed and sometimes argued over, is now put together in one clear formulation"3. The Bishops repeatedly expressed and fulfilled this intention4.
Second Question: What is the meaning of the affirmation that the Church of Christ subsists in the Catholic Church?
Response: Christ "established here on earth" only one Church and instituted it as a "visible and spiritual community"5, that from its beginning and throughout the centuries has always existed and will always exist, and in which alone are found all the elements that Christ himself instituted.6 "This one Church of Christ, which we confess in the Creed as one, holy, catholic and apostolic […]. This Church, constituted and organised in this world as a society, subsists in the Catholic Church, governed by the successor of Peter and the Bishops in communion with him"7.
In number 8 of the Dogmatic Constitution Lumen Gentium ‘subsistence’ means this perduring, historical continuity and the permanence of all the elements instituted by Christ in the Catholic Church8, in which the Church of Christ is concretely found on this earth.
It is possible, according to Catholic doctrine, to affirm correctly that the Church of Christ is present and operative in the churches and ecclesial Communities not yet fully in communion with the Catholic Church, on account of the elements of sanctification and truth that are present in them.9 Neverth7 Comments 668 days

The Pacific nation stopped this week as hundreds of Catholic believers gathered to worship an image they say is Mother Mary.
At one time, more than 500 people worshipped the vision, which appeared on the wall of a Congregational Christian Church building in the capital Apia on Tuesday.
Believers said the wavering form, shaped like a Coca-Cola bottle, was clearly that of Mary with a rosary in her hands. Others said it looked more like Christ.
Roman Catholic Archbishop, Father Spatz Silva, told the Samoa Observer he was still "investigating" if it was an official vision recognised by the church but said there was no doubt it was a general message to steer clear of sin.
"This is something people should look deeply into," he said.
"Look at yourself and ask if you are still walking the path Jesus wants us to take."
The newspaper's editor Keni Lesa said he was convinced it was a "good depiction of the virgin".
"It's pretty amazing really," Mr Lesa said.
"And it's quite a lot of excitement for us to have something like this just a week or so after the big switch."
The country marked a major national event on September 7 when drivers moved from the right to the left side of the road.
The shift brought Samoa into line with Australia and New Zealand and was aimed at encouraging the 170,000 Samoans living in these countries to export cars home.
An eight-year-old girl became the first casualty of the switch on Saturday when she was hit by a bus after looking the wrong way when crossing the road.
An arm was amputated as a result.

So here i am again on my never ending seach for ansewers to quetsions and ideas that have come to mind, i myself am an atheist and all i want to do is have a nice calm debate with someone on the other side of the fence20 Replies 63 weeks

as so many other reglious types have done in the past, i've had everything from being blocked, ignored, deleted, and shun, so i hope to find a person or group who will discuss things with me
without insults, name-calling, and to try to listen to both ends of the argument, i can assure you i'll spend hours thinking over what was said and try to come up with and in the end of it all, either i'll be a devout catholic or you'll become a devout athesit

He created heaven and earth, and created life. (Colossians 1:13-17) Our God even came in the flesh, and died in our place in order to win us back from Satan, so that we may have eternal life. (John 1:1-5,14. John 3:16-17)
Our God Jesus Christ. He who spoke to Moses from the burning bush. The I AM. (Exodus 3:14, John 8:58 )
He is coming soon, and when His people are in His Kingdom of the New Heaven and New earth, all flesh shall worship Him from one Sabbath to another. (Isaiah 66:22-23)
I pray that I (and others) can help people to come to know Jesus Christ, and that they may turn from their sins, so that they too may enter into His Kingdom. (Revelation 22:14)

Every Protestant asked the same questions... The so called Bible believing Christians.
I wonder if you're reading it in Cantonese because the English versions state the same thing...

"Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you... Receive ye the Holy Ghost. Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained." ...
The authority to forgive sins and NOT to... The Priest must hear it, but God alone will be the Judge.
Just because Jesus died on the cross for our sins, doesnt mean, you can take a life and be forgiven by lunch time.. cause you read your Bible everyday and you're really really really sorry.

Like St. Paul (himself a Catholic priest), every Catholic priest can refer to the souls he has spiritually begotten as his children in Christ. (1 Cor. 4:14). St. Paul considered himself to be the spiritual father, in Christ, of the Corinthians: "For if you have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet not many fathers. For in Christ Jesus, by the gospel, I have begotten you." (I Cor. 4:15). The title of "Father" is entirely proper for an ordained priest of Jesus Christ.

Sa-Levi20 weeks agoCatholics call their priests "Father" because in all matters pertaining to Christ's holy faith they perform the duties of a father, representing God. The priest is the agent of the Christian's supernatural birth and sustenance in the world. "Father" is a title which does not conflict in the slightest with Matthew 23:9. Christ forbids the Christian to acknowledge any fatherhood which conflicts with the Fatherhood of God – just as He commands the Christian to "hate" his father, mother, wife, and his own life, insofar as these conflict with the following of Christ. (Luke 14:26). But Christ does not forbid Christians to call His own representatives by the name of "Father."

But Mary isnt just a mother. She is the mother of Jesus Christ. The mother of God the Son.
When Jesus became man, he too must obey the law of Moses. "Honor your father and your mother".(The Ten Commandments)
in the original Hebrew, that word "honor," kaboda, that Hebrew word means to glorify, to bestow whatever glory and honor you have upon your father and mother.
Christ fulfilled that law more perfectly than any human by bestowing His glory upon His heavenly Father and by taking His own divine glory and honoring His Mother with it...
We DONT worship Mary.. We HONOR her like Christ did...
If you dont honor your own mother, well then, theres your first mis-understanding of Marys special place in the Universal Church. Im already feeling sorry for your mother...

The Bibe is the book of the Church not the Church of the Book...
Yes, some of our members have fallen into dissarray but if you're judging the Church by the conduct of its members then we must also look at others... Like Mthr Theresa Of Culgutar, St Francis of Assissis, St Augustine of Hippo... the list goes on...
