One Night Stand: 2008 (Pre-View)
The main feud heading into One Night Stand on the Raw brand is between Randy Orton and Triple H, with the two battling over the WWE Championship. The rivalry began after Backlash, where Triple H last pinned Orton in the Fatal Four-Way Elimination match to win the WWE title. At Judgment Day, Triple H defeated Orton in a Steel cage match to retain the WWE Championship by pinning him after a chairshot and a Pedigree. On the May 19 episode of Raw, General Manager William Regal booked a tag team match between the team of Orton and John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL) (who had lost to John Cena at Judgment Day) against Cena and Triple H. The stipulation of the match was if Orton and JBL won, they would get rematches against their respective Judgment Day opponents at One Night Stand in an extreme match of their choosing. However, if Cena and Triple H had won, they would have had face each other for the WWE Championship, with Regal choosing the match type. After Orton and JBL won the tag team match, Orton chose to compete in a Last Man Standing match against Triple H for the WWE Championship, while JBL decided to compete in a First Blood match against Cena at One Night Stand.
Another feud heading into One Night Stand, is between Shawn Michaels and Batista. The feud began after Batista expressed his remorse over the retirement of Ric Flair at the hands of Michaels at WrestleMania XXIV, and said that Michaels didn't do the right thing. This led to a match between the two at Backlash, with Chris Jericho as the special guest referee. At the end of the match, Michaels staged a knee injury, which helped him to defeat Batista after hitting a Sweet Chin Music. Batista however, remained skeptical about Michaels injury, and defeated Jericho on the May 19 episode of Raw to earn the right to face Michaels at One Night Stand in a Stretcher match.
Another feud from Raw between Jeff Hardy and Umaga. The rivalry started when Hardy returned from his 60-day suspension on the May 12 episode of Raw and defeated Umaga. The following week on the May 19 edition of Raw, Hardy would face Umaga again, but this time, both the superstars got counted out. As a result, the then General Manager, William Regal announced a Falls Count Anywhere match between Hardy and Umaga at One Night Stand.
The main feud heading into One Night Stand from the ECW brand is between CM Punk, Chavo Guerrero, Tommy Dreamer, John Morrison and The Big Show. On the May 20 edition of ECW, General Manager Armando Estrada announced a Fatal Four-Way Singapore Cane match for One Night Stand, featuring Punk, Dreamer, Morrison and Guerrero, and the winner would get an ECW Championship match against Kane at the Night of Champions. Estrada also announced a tag team match for that night, with Punk and Dreamer facing Morrison and Guerrero. After the latter two won the match, Big Show arrived in the ring and attacked all the four superstars. He reminded Estrada that he was also a former ECW Champion like the other four men, thus prompting Estrada to add him in the match at One Night Stand, thus making it a Five-Way Singapore Cane match.
