- WORKING FOR CHARITY & HIGLIGHTING CHARITYS HELPED BY THE BIKING COMUNITY
- Información
- Have you, as a biker or your Club organised a Charity Run, Toy Run, Rock night, Poker Night or any charitable event? If you have worked hard and raised money for your charity, we want to know about it.
www.coastalforcancer.org
We are trying to raise awareness for the charity work that is done by our fellow bikers, we plan to raise this awareness by means of a CHARITY LOG within our website. If you, on behalf of yourself or your club could please fill out the CHARITY LOG and give us a few details about the event you organised, what charity it was for, how much money was raised etc. this will aid us on highlighting the charity work done by Bikers.
If you do fill out the CHARITY LOG and are part of a bike club, we would ask if you would please send on a club patch and also email us your club patch at coastalforcancer@gmail.com
so that we can add the photo of your to the website to show your support.
patches put ont a flag and off to the highest bidder.and moneys to charity
- THE IDEA
- Let me start again - 2 years ago I wanted to go to the USA and travel Route 66 but the plan went out of the window, so a friend said "Why see the world when you haven't seen your own country!" - and like a smack with a hammer it hit me... the coastal roads of Ireland for cancer care. So along with a friend from the club we've decided to take on the challenge.
- THE CHARITYS
- All money raised goes to our two charities of choice; the Irish Cancer Society www.cancer.ie and the Ulster Cancer Foundation www.ulstercancer.co.uk
- THE PLAN
- to set out from Galway and travel the next 3500 - 4000 km approx. around Ireland for roughly 3 weeks, this is a long time with some spectacular Irish scenery and YES it will be camping all the way!!
The trip means we will travel roughly 200km a day, as you can imagine taking into consideration the types and condition of some of our country roads this is no easy task, especially over 3 weeks. - THE DATE
- Set off from Galway 14th June 2008 and arrive back in Galway 05th July 2008
- THE DETAILS
- While details of the route are still in the preliminary stages, the final stage is nearly finalized; It will involve our own club and hopefully help from as many other bikers and bike clubs as possible
- THE HISTORY
- Biking, motorbikes and being a motorcyclist has played a huge role in my life for many years, we have travelled extensively the length and breadth of the country, attending as many bike rallys as we can over the years, and our bike club has been very successful since we formed in 2002.
We have formed many relationships and friendships with many clubs and club members and this gives me hope that they will give us as much support as they possibly can. We plan to contact all clubs over the next few months and before the next bike bible is out next year, to ask you for your help and support. - TO DONATE
- Donate by logging on to www.coastalforcancer.org, and using the "Donate" link. Otherwise keep an eye out for sponsorship cards with the "Coastal For Cancer" logo.

DO you fancy a spin
Well do you fancy a spin on Saturday the 14th of june.
Well guys your all welcome.Because we are leaving the Salthill carpark
at 10am and heading to mayo..
But do remember this is not a race, stopping along the way a few times roundstone ,
dogs bay, which is to be in 1 of the worlds top 20 unspoilt beaches,
Then heading to Clifden for some food,
Where E.J kings is sorting out some grub at a good price.
around a 10euro set price, but the food is good and you get a lots of it
hopefully getting there around 1 or 2 pm.. then out the sky road following the coast on
up to Mayo..arriving there later that evening and setting up camp
at the foot croke patrick ...and if your in to it watch the sun set
from the front door of a nice pub with a nice chilled pint. The camp site is not 2 minute walk .
On the road again at 10 sunday morning where another hike of about 230 km around to Ballina
Well if thats sounds good to you
get on your bike and join us
Ps we do plan to get lost thats the fun bit

3 weeks left
Well after 9 month of trying to get this thing together.just a few more weeks to go. so if any of you fancy a bit spin at any stag of our run around the coast of Ireland your welcome to join us. but please understand we are not in a rush.. we feel this is a great opportunity to see this wonderful Island we live in and what it has to offer.which we all know is a lot.
Like i said before this all stemmed from a trip i wanted to do in the states.
route 66.Which sounds nice and all.. but the only thing missing is dessert ,o ya long straight roads
but there boring...We got twisty bumpy pot holes ..shit what keeps you awake and interested of what around you.so you get to see the place..HA you think this is a waffle .
wait till we get on the road....waffle waffle then ...
but if any of you wish to camp along with us at the camp sites that have sponsored us.
i suggest check the dates on our route page...pick a date that suits you and then book a place at that camp site.....you will find all the info on sponsors page....but please keep in mind these are family run places ................
so guys and girls we might see you on the road

be shocked by these stats
Overview of Motorcyclist Road Collision Casualties .
This issue contains motorcyclist collision statistics for 2006 calendar year and in the last decade. It examines trends in collisions, fatalities and injuries over time in the last decade as well as the most recent trends. It also details when and where motorcyclist road collisions occurred.
In 2006, 29 motorcyclists were killed. This accounted for 8 per cent of all fatalities. An additional 505 motorcyclists were injured. The number of motorcyclist fatalities has reduced by 48 per cent between 2006 and 2005. In 2006, motorcyclists were 13 times more likely than car users to be killed and 3 times more likely than pedal cyclists to be killed per vehicle kilometres travelled.
Long-term trends in Motorcyclist Road Deaths
323 Motorcyclists were killed in the period 2000-2006, 893 were seriously injured in the same period. 70% of motorcyclists killed in the period 2000-2006 were male aged 17-34 (i.e. 36.4% were male aged 17-24 and 34% were male aged 25-34). 63% of motorcyclists seriously injured were male aged 17-34. 54% of these fatalities happened on Sunday and Saturday
So lets break this down a little
Between 2000 and 2006 the worst year was 2005 where 56 motorcyclist were killed.
And of the same year 6 were killed around 8 in the evening .So up until 00-06 31 people were killed around this time of the evening. And May seems to be the worst month. Where 10 were killed in that month in 2005.where 18 of that year were aged between 25 and 34
{Now. more dome and gloom. .but hay you don’t have to read it//}
ALL SERIOUS INJURIES BETWEEN 1996-2006
Now for serious injuries .The worst year over this 10 year period seems to be 1997.
235 people were injured that year, and of the same year .30 were injured in april.
95 of them were aged between 17 and 24 of the year 1997
So guys a break down.
Saturday and Sunday seems to be the worst. between 1600hours &2100hours of any day of the week is also a bad time. April and May is when we are getting on our bikes after the winter is not good news either… so when you read this it might just make you a bit more aware..
So drive safe and take care
